Military Patches
« on: July 15, 2005, 04:10:00 PM »
A family friend of mine does alot of business on eBay, and part of it is military patches.
I just wanted to put this out in the open to all those who collect them or want to put them on their BDU/DCU as a support to our troops.

Heres his eBay store : http://stores.ebay.com/alsproducts_PATC ... idZ2QQtZkm

Unless you are doing a re-enactment, or have a patch that doesn't represent a unit directly, it is offensive.. otherwise, that is cool.

I hope your friend's ebay business does well, although I don't really like the color scheme being used...

Anyway, as far as wearing military insignia, read this thread:

I understand all that but these aren't like a direct statement like "I'm Airborne" etc. they're 9/11, operation Iraqi freedom and others.

EDIT: Heh, I just noticed the pink. I'll ask him why he chose it  :?

Thanks for the heads-up.

I used to collect unit patches as a kid and got a kick out of it.

I'm getting to the point where I don't care if someone wears a unit patch, as long as they aren't a f*cking poser.

Wear a 101st patch with an IBA, ACH, and some DCUs, just don't tell me you were with them in Iraq if you weren't.

Bottom line, respect those who wear it for real!

As a veteran, I think wearing patches is kind of disrespectful.  I understand the reasoning behind it, but the a lot of work goes into earning a unit patch or qualification badge.  Just sort of cheapens the accomplishment in my opion.  Besides if you don't wear patches you can portray what an actual SF operator would wear.  They don't often identify themselves with insignia while on operations.

On the flipside, however, the old adage that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery definitely applies here. Be thankful that people idolize the US military and what our troops do. In all honesty, on this forum, you will find the most respect for the military.

Yeah I fully understand that imitation is the greatest form of flattery, but ask almost any veteran about it, and they won't agree.  Its ok if young kids do it, but if your of age, physically, and mentally qualified to enlist, its frowned upon.  I could see it for the purpose of historical re-enactments, but thats not what airsoft is for.

I see and understand your point GUNFIGHTER6.  But I have learned long ago that it is not a patch that makes you who you are, but it is what you have done to earn it.  And no one esle can cheapen or take that away from you.  The only point of a patch to me would be for seeking recognition.  And I know how stupid it is when anyone can pick one of those up just about anywhere.

'Course, It don't pay to be wearing a Hell's Angel patch if you aren't one, either.

I won't wear military patches for the same reason I won't wear 100% authentic MARPAT. I'm not in the military and I didn't earn either, I think that wearing either would do what gunslinger was trying to point out.

Hey fella's, I think you are all reading way too much into the "patch" issue here.  Yes I'm sure that some people could become offended by someone wearing a unit patch on his/her uniform. Please  keep in mind that perhaps it was given to them by a family member, or they just want to add more realism to the game.  Second, for all of the people out there that feel airsoft is not or should not be a military style sport.....time to get with reality.  Can't handle it....go play speedball where you don't carry military style gear and weapons, and get to shoot neon colored markers!  Third.  If you want to wear a unit combat patch for realism...thats ok!  It makes the airsoft experence more intense and fun.  Let us remember that there are A TON OF MILITARY BRATS AND NERDS THAT PLAY AIRSOFT. (no offence....I happen to be one too...)  Also bear in mind that most players will wear patches because they like the paticular unit being worn. I would hope that anyone would not make the mistake of not starting a good friendship  over a patch being worn.  That's just plain stupid.  We all enjoy playing airsoft and making new friends along the way.  I would ask anyone who chooses to add a combat patch to his/her uniform to wear it with pride!  And to also remember that many men and women have died wearing that patch to GIVE YOU AND ALL OF US THE FREEDOM AND RIGHT to play our wonderful sport, and to live and grow old in this God given great country we call home!  If a military member comes up to you and asks about it, be honest!  And last....Look them in the eye, shake his/her hand, and say THANK YOU!

Keep it real!
