Several Marines have been arrested on charges of working with a group that stole ballistic vests and other gear from Camp Pendleton and sold it on the Internet, authorities revealed Wednesday.

The investigation unfolded amid widespread criticism that U.S. troops in war zones lacked body armor.

Authorities have arrested nine people so far, including several Pendleton-based Marines, the Department of Homeland Security said in a press release. Additional arrests were expected.

The nine include Erika Jardine, who was sentenced Wednesday to six months in prison by Judge Michael Baylson in U.S. District Court in Pennsylvania. The Vista resident and civilian pleaded guilty in November to one count of exporting arms without a license and one count of selling stolen U.S. government property.

The others worked at Pendleton, though it was unclear exactly how many were on military duty and how many were civilian employees at the base north of San Diego, said Dean Boyd, a spokesman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, part of Homeland Security.

The Marines were arrested last year and were charged in military court with theft of government property, Boyd said.

According to prosecutors, Jardine sold light ceramic plates designed for use inside vests at a time when there were shortages of that part in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Jardine has cooperated extensively with the government and "made great strides in attempting to right her wrongs," prosecutors wrote in a sentencing memorandum.

"(The) government does not believe that (the) defendant engaged in this activity out of any sinister intent to harm the United States; rather, her actions are more likely explained by the same motivation that fuels many _ greed," prosecutors wrote.

An ongoing investigation at Camp Pendleton by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service has identified 12 Marines and several civilians as suspects, Homeland Security said. That number includes Marines who were already arrested.

ICE agents in Philadelphia launched an investigation of Jardine in June 2004 and discovered that she was selling illegal gear in Internet auctions on eBay, authorities said. Agents who posed as arms merchants based in Europe allegedly bought 18 ballistic vests from her.

Jardine, who had no previous connection to Pendleton, offered to buy surplus equipment in an ad she placed in a base newspaper, Boyd said. "Someone told her this was a way to potentially make some money," he said.

In one instance, Jardine agreed to send body armor plates to an undercover agent in eastern Pennsylvania with an understanding that the buyer would forward them to Europe, according to court records.

In addition to the vests that undercover agents bought, the investigation has resulted in the recovery of items worth more than $63,100, including 17 vests, 104 lightweight ceramic plates, seven Kevlar helmets, 74 M-16 magazines, two gas masks and 100,766 Iraqi dinars, authorities said.

? Now there is another option which does not involve a battery bag or gaffa tape. STAR will be releasing a battery carrier with a difference, it is shaped similiar to a certain manufacturer's Vertical Foregrip Weapon Light. It stores a 9.6v 3300mAH battery which is included and weighs in at 920g.

Just wanted to get feedback from all you guys about this issue. The trend is leaning towards standards(No winding type mags)

Me personaly I love the idea of NO high caps. I think High caps are turning this hobby into Paintsoft. TOOO many spray and prayers out there.
Now don't get me wrong there is a need for support type AEGs Saws M60s and RPKs for suppression. But there should be a limit to how many are on the field UNLESS the Saw is running  the 100/200 Rds boxmags

What do you guys think....

Ammo supply has always been an concern  with warfare and another way to beat the opposing forces is to cut the supply line.  With Super Ubber High caps and battle load outs of 10,000 rds . We will never achieve  a real Milsim feel

General Airsoft Discussion / House Bill 4132 to ban Airsoft in Illinois's?
« on: February 09, 2006, 09:07:39 PM »
found this on another  airsoft site

House Bill 4132 to ban Airsoft in Illinois's?

Raif dropped me a line about some proposed legislation changes that may well affect Airsoft in Illonois, you can read more about this in the forums:
Arnie: I am following the news about attempts in the UK to ban airsoft. Thought it would not happen here in the USA. Guess I was wrong! Thought I would drop you a note about this new bill proposed in our state legislature. House Bill 4132 would ban all replicas of "weapons designed for military purposes." While this appears to be aimed at full size replicas of things like RPGs, clearly this would make airsoft guns illegal (at least those that are copies of military hardware).

I urge any of your Illinois readers to check out the Illinois State Rifle Association's website at www.isra.org and find out how to contact their local legislators to kill this bill. This also would ban real guns that are otherwise legal in illinois (Garands, M1 Carbines, 1911 handguns).

Bill is reprinted below in its entirety from the state's website:

"94TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY
State of Illinois
2005 and 2006
HB4132

Provides that a violation is a Class A misdemeanor.

AEG's / Star M249 Para Review Short and Sweet
« on: January 01, 2006, 07:24:59 PM »

Light weight plastic body- could not believe how light it was out of the box

Auto winding - The box mag is self-winding, a function which is linked to the trigger. Pulling the trigger is all you need to do to fire all 2500 rounds. No manual winding is required and there are no separate buttons to press to wind the mag.

Anti-reversal latch release button - The gearbox features a handy button which releases anti-reversal latch, letting the piston fall to rest. This is a great feature since the gun is full auto only, it gives you a way to make sure the main spring is at rest when you're done using the gun

Polycarbonate gearbox - Made of thick, light weight, transparent polycarbonate, the gearbox shell is one of the guns most interesting features. Because it's transparent, diagnosing problems is easy. It's made of polycarbonate (the same material used in bullet-proof glass) so it's sure to be strong while staying light weight

FPS - Good out of the box FPS, between 330-335 with .20g BBs.

Carrying case - A 'Pelican-esque' plastic carrying case is included with every gun

Hop up adjustment - sucks in my opinion, I needed to have it adjusted and was unable to do it on the fly

Over all I was impressed with the performance of the M249 . Only issues I had out the box was Hopup and the Box mag power feed cable sometimes failed to maintain positive contact causing the M249 not to fire

future upgrades will included SP120 spring to bring FPS up to 380s and new piston head

After about 2000 rds this weekend everything looks to be in tiptop shape
NO cracks or sign of premature wear

AEG's / G&G customer servise rocks
« on: January 01, 2006, 07:12:09 PM »
I had another problem with my highly upgrade m14 CarzyHorse last weekend, So I go on the the G&G websitehttp://b2b.guay2.com/ to do some QA reading and I found this

We recently notice that some of our M14 rifles have pressurization(airtight) problems , which is cause by the tiny space between the nozzle and the Hop-up rubber , it will result to some decreasing of the muzzle velocity. In order to solve the problem completely , we redesign the tappet plate and reset the tappet spring . Now our new rifles all equip with this new tappet plate and the tappet spring . To whom already bought our M14s(including the S.O.C. 16) , we are gladly to provide the service to exchange the old tappet plate and tappet spring without any charge . Please contact your local distributors for
the service .

I email them and not more then 15mins went by till I got a reply

The email stated they would send me out all need parts, Will keep you guys posted on outcome
