Title: Operation: Agoge, November 5th-7th 2010, Prescott, AZ
Post by: Airsofter1 on October 03, 2010, 07:52:28 PM
Looks like there is going to be a new Combat Challenge Op up north in Prescott.
Its a mountain forest AO so expect some nice terrain to fight in.  He should be putting some pics of the AO up tonight.

http://www.combatchallenge.org/ (http://www.combatchallenge.org/)

Its short notice, but I plan on going.
I had a lot of fun at all the other Combat Challenge Ops and I'm looking forward to this one.

How do the formation of the teams work? Also noticed that the registration is supposed to include lodging, so what does that mean exactly?

LOL, No worries, bro. That just means be prepared to stay in the field for the duration of the missions. We try to keep it reasonably fast paced.

Registration is open! Please register right away

Ok, so here is the scoop. The land we will be using covers 100 acres and is mostly surrounded by miles of National Forest. The terrain features just about everything we could hope for. Great cover, tons of trees, ridges, steep terrain, ravines, water (seasonal), and eight horizontal gold and silver mines. Some of these mines go back 1/4 of a mile.

The owner, Jeff Funicello will be building a combatives training facility at this location. As the owner of American Pankration Fighting, Jeff is an excellent instructor and teaches combatives with military special operations.

The registration will be between $55.00 - $85.00. We are trying to finalize the registration fee. What is holding things up is the possibility of getting access to a nearby camp complete with cabins. Registration will also include a t-shirt, a copy of Tactical MilSim Magazine, and a raffle ticket. Additional tickets may be purchased on site for $5.00 each. Remember all profits will go to the development of this field for future events.

This event will be similar to past Combat challenges with the players organized into 10 man teams, so please hurry and register so that we can start the unit organizations as well as order the t-shirts. We will announce the actual fee as soon as possible.

Thanks for all of your support.

The fee is now officially set at $56.00. We have added the payment button to the registration thank you page as well as the home page for www.combatchallenge.org (http://www.combatchallenge.org).

We are still working on the lodging and if we can arrange it we will offer these cabins for an additional fee for those who are interested.

We will also gather information on some surrounding hotels for those of you who wish to live it up a little.

The OPORD (Player Pack) will be sent out on 23 Oct. However, we will see if we can get the equipment list out earlier. The list is pretty much standard for big ops (ie no hicaps) but each 10 man team will need a GPS. So if you have one, bring it. GPS is very important at Combat Challenge events. We will be using UTM Grids coordinates so start brushing up on how to read them and store them in your GPS.

Meanwhile, here is a video we put together. Enjoy...

There was a reason why this terrain was chosen to host military special operations training.  I believe the units who will be operating in and around the area will find it to be a decent challenge. It will definitely put you to the test and should be a lot of fun!

I suspect most people will just drop out and say F it part of the way through the day, depending on what they are doing.

I disagree, the past combat challenge events I have attended can definitely put you outside your comfort zone but it is not their goal to simply run you into the ground. They will push you a bit but they will also assist you so you can be successful. Again this is a mil-sim event and not your standard airsoft game. I think this sums it up well.

Quote from: "Combat Challenge Staff"
For those who may not know Agoge means abduction in Greek but it also means leading or training. The reason for this is that the Agoge was the taking and training of young men to become Spartans. Like our journey of airsoft into professional mil-sim, it took many years to complete the Agoge. Most men were not even considered Spartan warriors until they were in their thirties. This is why the Spartans warriors were such a success. The purpose of Combat Challenge is you make you and your team a success as well.

Awesome, I'm a big fan of the Regiment guys.  I met a bunch of them over the previous iterations of CC and had the pleasure of serving under some of them as CO's in the LC Red Storm game early this year.

I'm still working on getting some more of the Tucson folks interested but the short notice put many of the more serious players in a bind with family plans.  Looks like I have 5 of us enlisted and going from DH going as Spetsnaz.  We will be sure to get payment in this week and start making plans on lodging.  We are looking forward to some more great stuff from the CC guys.

Yep, we have to have them registered by noon on Friday (That's Tomorrow) and paid by midnight on Monday. We need Rangers and Croatians.

Also for those who follow UFC, I'll share with you an email from our combatives instructor Jeff Funicello:

"Congratulations!!! to former American Pankration member, Cain Velasquez winning the World Heavyweight title in the UFC, and taking out the giant Brock Lesner.

How motivating? And, what a great experience for those of you that got a chance to be a part of his training last summer at the SRC, and for other members who had a chance in years past in the ASU wrestling room. It shows hard work does pay off!!!

We hope to have many more with their grass roots here in the program."

We certainly hope everyone had a good time. It is very challenging to run an OP in such steep terrain. Even setting up the field was a challenge at Agoge. Here is a picture that Ryan took while we were driving down the trail from the campsite down to the Russian FOB in order to set up the props.

Also want to thank Echo One for sending ammo and AEX for sending the Javelin M4 for the raffle. Andrew pretty much over-nighted the M4 in order to get it in the raffle.

And finally I want to thank the Advisers, Mikey, Ryan, and Brad. They really made the difference.

Please be sure to post your pis and reviews over on the CombatChallenge.org Forum also.
