They make no mention of the unit(s) involved.  Interesting...

Why are they using a smaller .45?

Because its easier to handle?  Any trained marine should be able to hold onto a full frame .45 ACP

If this is true then we are sorely lacking in intelligence in the military today.  Haven't read the article and won't but the title alone is worth my hopes that it's false.
Inferior weapon, unproven round, and more additional cons than I have time to write about here.
We won't give up the unreliable M16 line, and now this?  Why not just askl the world to take us over?!!!

I can't see the military buying 10,000 of a particular gun without testing a small number of them (extensively) at first.

I could see 10,000 being some kind of large field test...

Every weapons site I belong to hold that the Marines are looking for a 1911, starting with the Recon units.  They are currently using a small number of Kimbers in the interim until a new handgun is chosen.

I've heard that too, Kyle.

I think the most likely situation is Glock approached the Marines and offered cut-rate pricing on that many guns, similar to the way they sell to police departments.

(Thank you for pointing out that THAT is how Glock became the biggest supplier to PDs...not by being a better gun, but a cheaper gun!)
As with all military rumors we just don't know, but all I've heard about so far is that they want 1911s and they are using some Kimbers right now.

This has been shown to be a falsehood, the owner of the site even admitted that he took the guy's word for it without checking up.

PM for links to that discussion.

/edit bah, I've since realized that the discussion on SOCNET has been moved behind closed doors.  Take my word for it then.

USMC Buys 10,000 Glocks

The Marines have bought 10,000 Glock 37's in the new .45 GAP.

I would take the article with a grain of salt, but I suppose it's plausible.
