this place sounds like it can be a great field. here are my two cents, I would put an ad on CL and backpage, letting people know that if they want to get rid of some of their junk that you can take for them. of course you will want to screen what they are bringing. example, I have a friend that has a POS car with no title sitting in his side yard. someday hell eventually get rid of it. some people don't want to pay to dipose of stuff, that is your chance to get stuff for the field free of charge....

look forward to the photos and seeing the progress. just had one question, what county is it in?

Power and Main is still Maricopa.

Just want to know why this is so. Everybody has their reasons. Let's not turn this into a thread about ths topic. I just want to know this one person's reason.

For cheap furniture in the CQB area or as debris in the field, I would roam the dumpsters at the ASU dorms when we get closer to summer break. They throw out so much usable stuff during moves. Even at my apartment complex in chandler I occasionally pick up a newer entertainment center or end table that someone casually tossed aside. Another idea is to search out rouge dumping areas. It's sad, but there are people who leave good obstacle material all over AZ. Just keep an open eye out.

If you need a hand with building anything, I'm good with any kind of construction. I build props and trinkets at home for miscellaneous events and wouldn't mind the bigger challenge.

My two cents on layout would be to have a broken down (whatever) in the center of the field for a good objective point. If you could build a replica helicopter crash scene, that would be ultimate. Might be able to pull that off with a rivet gun or screws, some sheet metal, and 2x4 framework.

Wasn't trying to be a dick (except in that last post ;) ), but when you start charging money to play at a place, it changes a lot of rules. It's not an informal get together (like the pick up games at SASCO or Four Peaks), it becomes a business. All the laws start to apply. Licenses, insurance, and inspections will be needed.

WW6mm, if you're planning on having this move forward, you're gonna have to take care of this and play by the rules or you could be looking at fines and lawsuits if someone is injured on the property. Unless you have a lawyer draft up a waiver (and keep him on retainer), any halfway competent lawyer will shred through a homemade wavier and sue ya for all you're worth.

Permanent structures require licensing, inspection, and professional construction by competent builders. That's hard to do with donated materials and the crew of 14-18 year old kiddos you've had volunteer up til now (who I'm darn sure have little to no actual construction experience outside of a tree house or "bunkers" at Fuji). Semi-permanent structures need to pretty solid too. If one of them collapses when someone is inside, that's a pretty bad deal.

Speaking of such, insurance is gonna be out of sight. You ever wonder why Tempe Paintball is $26.50 or Vanguard is whatever insane price they are? It's not cause they're greedy and trying to screw you over (well, maybe Vanguard is). Insurance eats up a huge amount of money. You're gonna need to figure all this out if you're going to do everything kosher (i.e. a business plan). I'm not an economist or business man myself, just using a bit of common sense and common knowledge.

TL;DR: You're doing it wrong. Unless you're going to do everything by the book, you're asking for trouble. You owe it both to yourself and the people that would be playing at the field to do this the right way and safely. That's going to take money, though.

Edit: completely forgot, there's also personal liability, since WW6mm owns the land. If anyone gets hurt on the land and he can be determined to be at fault, he's liable. Ain't the law grand?

Make it free and not a business?  Just land to go shoot each other occasionally?

Land and cover doesn't pay for itself.
