General Airsoft Discussion / Donations for Props?
« on: January 18, 2006, 03:18:12 PM »
Many of us organizers have purchased props and equipment to enhance AA games out of our own pocket in the past.

The time has come that we develope a sum of money, contributed by players, that can be used to buy props.

The props would be used for all AA-sanctioned events, including monthly AA games, and larger OPs like Cold Burn.

Donations will be accepted during official AA games.

What do you think?

Accessories & Gear / AEG Optics 101
« on: January 16, 2006, 06:42:19 PM »
A few guys have PMed me asking about AEG replica optics, and my TGS PVS-14 replica.  I decided to post this not only as a reference for these particular optics, but as a guide fopr choosing something that works for your individual requirements.  Most of the techniques described will work for any other airsoft optics.  (This should not be used as a guide for firearm accessories!)

NOTE:  The pics blow.  I'm not a photographer.

Here is my Mk18 with G&P Aimpoint replica and a Knight's-style 30mm Co-witness mount, with a Crane-style BUIS.

When zeroed properly, the red dot in the Aimpoint is directly above the front sight post in your sight picture.  Here's the pic:

And at night.

*Note that the red dot is not directly over the sight post in the pics.  This is due to the poor camera angle and my lack of photography skills.

Aimpoints and other red dot sights are designed for use with both eyes open.

When slight magnification is desired, you can use a magnifier, or simply place another scope behind a red dot.  Here I have used my PVS14 replica, that has a 4x magnifier and crosshairs that can be zeroed.

Here's the sight picture.

At night.

Due to parallax, using the red-dot and 4x in this fashion is not compatible with BAC shooting/aiming.  This is not the case with higher-end firearm optics.  However, since the variance is very slight, it's "good enough for airsoft."

What do do with the BUIS when the 4x is mounted?  Throw it in a GP pouch (and risk it losing zero), or mount it on your 9 o'clock rail like I did.  (If you're a left handed shooter, place it on the 3 o'clock rail).  The idea is to have it next to your body, and within view when the weapon is slung.  It's not a bad idea to dummy cord it to the RAS.

With regards to the PVS14 replica in particular, I am very pleased with it.   While the eye relief is very "picky" (there's definitely a sweet-spot!), it's durability thusfar has been exceptional for an airsoft item.  The mount that comes with it from AEX is fantastic, and holds a zero even after mounting and dismounting several times.

I'll try to get some better pics later, but if there's anything in particular you'd like to see or you have any questions, let me know.

Official Airsoft Arizona Game for February.

The country of Befjherkistan has long been a poor country that has catered to terrorist and mercenary training camps.  Never of any significance to the United States.  Until now....  At approximately 0215 a US aircraft was shot down over the regoin by man portable air defense missle.  Immediately US Navy SEALs were dispatched to the area to recover the aircrew.

The mission was not a success.

US Army Special Forces and 10th Mountain troops have now been mobilized.

Location*:  Southwest Paintball field http://www.southwestpaintball.com

Time: 1430 arrival

Teams:  Tan, Green (US WOODLAND, 3 and 6 COLOR DESERT CAMO ONLY!)  BDU TOPS AND BOTTOMS!

Cost:  $20 admission

PM me your team choice, do not post here!

Check field link for directions/info.

Please go to http://www.southwestpaintball.com/asset/swpb_waiver.pdf to download a copy of their waiver and have it ready when you arrive.  They require a completed copy of their waiver for anyone to play on the field.

Important items to bring (required for game play):
Red Rag
- the last AA game only 20% of the players that showed up brought theirs...  This is an important item.  And I dont want to hear any of this "I dont need one because I dont plan on getting shot" crap.

Sock
- the field owners require this for when we are in the staging area.  Mags in weapons are OK, as long as you have a paintball barrel sock, or just any old smelly sock will do.  If your not on the field, then you need to have something covering your barrel!

* If you are driving a car (as in, NOT a truck or SUV), and don't want to get it dusty, there is a Fry's grocery store on the NW corner of Bell Rd and Reems Rd.  You can leave your vehicle there, and ride with someone else.  All arrangements must be made beforehand, as the majority of players will go straight to the field.

That said, cars will make it just fine.  Airsofter1 drove a Miata on that road, before it was improved, and lived to tell about it.

Here is a map to the AO.

(the dot is the conoco, the dash is the exit)
It is approx. 20 miles North of the Ba'Ja Conoco gas station on HWY 87.  There is a bridge you will pass over, then a small green sign that says "Sycamore Creek."
Make that exit by turning East.
Here is a map of the parking area from there.

There very well may be campers, ATVers, and families in the parking area.  Try to keep a low profile, and do not make alot of noise.  If we have to, we can park along the dirt road on the way in.  I'll make that call on Saturday.

AEG's / Classic Army "M15A4 CQB" aka CQB R
« on: December 14, 2005, 08:09:28 PM »
Yeah, I got a "Classic Army M15A4 CQB."

I made it into a Mk18 CQB R by adding an Aimpoint Comp M2 replica with a Knight's High Ring, First Factory/ANGS Limited Edition AN/PEQ2A replica (THE best and most realistic replica on the market, PERIOD!), and a Surefire Classic 6 volt with Shock Isolated bezel and 1" ring.

It already came with a M4 RAS, Knight flash hider, Cut down Rear A2 sight, Crane stock, and 10.5" heavy barrel. It's even got a faux gas tube that's visible through the upper vent holes on the RAS!

The CA rail covers blow ass, and don't even stay on, so I replaced them with some real Knight's covers I had laying around from when I had a Knight's RAS.

The hider is a bit larger in outer diameter than the G&P unit that came with the Knight's Suppressor, so I can't swoop Anthony's Knight's can just yet.

It's solid as a rock, the RIS is even more solid than the real RAS I had (and it's not fucking purple!), and the ROF is insane with the 2400 mAh 9.4v (30A Discharge Rate!) I got from Precision Airsoft that is specially made for the CA Crane stocks.

Internally, it's completely stock. I'm going to add a tightbore and spring to get it to 400fps, but not for awhile. This little thing is the nicest stock AEG I've ever paid less than 1100 dollars for.

Pics soon.  Some of you have already seen it.

Any questions?

General Airsoft Discussion / The 10 Types of Airsoft Player.
« on: December 06, 2005, 07:05:11 PM »
I found this at MilSimHQ.com, a great airsoft site.

Quote
The 10 types of milsim players you meet
Sept 16, 2004
Umpota

1.Farva - This guy's best days are behind him, the best time in Farva's life were spent in the military, and he's hellbent on reliving them. Don't bother trying to argue or reason with the guy, it's like arguing with a five year old child who wants to play with a chainsaw.

2.Gear whore – Gear whore loves his gear. He owns at least 3 setups from each company, and considers spending $1000 on a Paraclete RAV complete with soft armor inserts to be a “Great way to get startedâ€￾. Gear whore almost exclusively sticks to an m16 / m4 setup. Gear whore is can be identified by his constant complaints that stores like lightfighter tactical are constantly out of stock.

3.Gun whore – Gun whore's mission in life is to own or have owned every airsoft gun in existence. Disdaining AEGs as “mundane and boringâ€￾, gun whore now exclusively buys guns that are at least 15 years old.

4.1337 H4X0R – 1337 H4X0R has been raised since birth on first person shooters like Doom, Quake, Counterstrike, and Day of Defeat. 1337 H4X0R seeks to combine his 1337 skills in Counterstrike to milsim games. However, he has yet to learn that wall hacks, aimbots, and bunny hopping are horridly impractical for real world use.

5.Jank – Jank loves all things Japanese. He has an extensive collection of anime, from children's shows to bizarre and disgusting tentacle porn. Although he has never been to Japan, Jank is sure that the Japanese are a welcoming and open minded culture. As an extension of his love of all things Japanese, Jank has begun a foray into the world of airsoft.

6.Businessman – Businessman comes in two flavors – legitimate and illegitimate. Legitimate businessman is seeking to make airsoft his own home business. Although he has so far made less money than a McDonald's “drool caseâ€￾, legitimate businessman is sure things will pick up as soon as he develops a customer base consisting of gun whores and janks. Illegitimate businessman is a professional scammer, while he may seem to be identical to legitimate businessman, illegitimate businessman makes his money by claiming to upgrade guns, shipping broken or nonfunctional guns, or simply refusing to send any good that have been paid for.

7.Unlucky – Unlucky is has yet to learn that they have no luck. Following a series of painful and disastrous injuries, unlucky still insists on playing milsim games, even after suffering from debilitating injuries. Scientists have yet to identify why unlucky does not learn from his injuries and find a less hazardous hobby.

8.Crazy Asian – Crazy Asian has been playing airsoft for longer than 1337 H4X0R has been out of diapers. Crazy Asian, through a variety of ancient secrets, has mastered the ability to be totally invisible outside, and uses this to great effect against gear whore, farva, 1337 H4X0R, and Jank.

9.Wannabe – Wannabe never served in the military, however he now tries to “walk the walkâ€￾ wannabe can usually be found clinging to farvas. Wannabe now makes outrageous claims such as working as a secret government operative. Wannabe may appear to be similar to gear whore, however, wannabe's main focus is emulating the latest “flavor of the weekâ€￾ military unit. A spawning for wannabe activity is after the release of a military action movie. The latest wannabe spawning was the release of Blackhawk Down. Blackhawk Down caused a spike in wannabe Delta Force and Ranger milsim players.

10.Newbie – Newbie is trying to have a champaign diet on a King Cobra 40 oz budget. Rather than purchase an average gun, newbie has decided to play wearing a camouflage t-shirt and jeans, and carry a springer pistol and $30 mini AEG. Newbie still wonders how other players' guns are able to shoot so much farther than his. Newbie can often be seen taking advice on tactics from Wannabe and Farva.
