New to the Valley
« on: March 26, 2013, 07:56:26 PM »
Hey Guys,

My name is Steve, I just recently moved to the valley for work. I used to play airsoft in Western Pa. for about 3 yrs back in the early 2000's, but I have been inactive for the last 5 or so years. With my new home here in the valley, I figured it's time to bring back some of my old hobbies that I have missed.  I recently picked up an echo 1 m4 as a starter gun, and I'm looking to head out to some games over the next few weeks to meet some of you fine folks.

Steve

PS- Man these verifications are hard to read, took me 3 tries! lol

Welcome to AZ! What city are you located in? Might I suggest coming out to the airsoft campout April 12-13, where there will be good people and loads of fun.

There is allot of options available for your weekend choosing. We usually have around 30+ people attend the weekly fearfarm games. It all depends in your playing style. Do you like to play in the desert our in an urban environment. I do agree with sgun in thevanguard aspect. Nothing but little kids there. Not sure why he said to stay away from the farm though.

Funny how everyone starts advertising when a new guy shows up.

Steve-O, if you're looking for field, there's the Phantom monthly games, Hatfield on Sundays, Fear Farm on Saturdays, and the occasional big scenario game posted every now and again. The Phantom games are well run and usually a blast. I've heard positive things about Hatfield, but it is waaaaaaaaay in the northwest Valley. Fear Farm has it's faults, but is a decent field, especially if you're more to the Westside.

For indoor CQB, there's really only two at the moment: Tempe Paintball and VIP (Vanguard). Tempe is run by people that either play airsoft or paintball, so they tend to be pretty chill while still enforcing the rules. The clientele is mainly people from AA on the airsoft side and most of us are honest, play hard, and play fairly. The field is on the small side, but this leads to very quick CQB games where speed and tactical thought tend to win out over camping and (since it's a semi-only field) spraying and praying. VIP, on the other hand, is a very large indoor field with a great lay out and tons of corner, hallways, mouseholes, ect. to give you quite a few approaches and flanking routes. The reason everyone says to avoid it is (again) the clientele. Kids, aged 7-15, that won't call hits, cheat like crazy (flip to full auto in semi games), and generally ruin the experience. They also tend to steal things, ask a billion times to see your guns, and try to sell you crap. The staff isn't much better, mostly college kids that just want a pay check. The price point is a bit of an issue as well, since they operate on a "session" system, instead of a flat all day rate. If you want the full horror story, search the forums for "The Trouble with Vanguard" and be ready for some heavy reading.

As PSC said, there's a lot of opinions and everyone has their favorite places to go. Try a few out and see which one(s) are to your liking. Hope to see out on the field sometime.

Thanks Guys for all of the info! 2 weekends ago I made the trip out to VIP and saw exactly what you guys are talking about. The staff were friendly to me(atleast the guy in the shop was) and informative about how much the gun market has changed since I've played(IE; Gas Guns, Celsius,  the decline of CA and TM). But the place just isn't my kind of Airsoft.

Me personaly I like to mix it up between CQB/CQC and Field play, both with a mindset towards MIL-SIM type play. But i'm not too keen on the wanna be military approach, I just like to shoot my friends every now and then  ;).

The only reason why I may be questionable for Sat is because I work Nightside 2-11pm and Im not sure of the "condition" I'll be in after, lol.
