I don't know...college for me was one anti-American slam after another.  I had Michael Moore "films" and similar "knowledge" crammed down my throat until I finally stood up in class one day, told the teacher and the class that while I was paying for my education I intended to be educated, and left.  Next day things were quieter except for the fuming teacher's expressions.  I'm certain the history books do continue to paint too pretty a picture, but in college all I got was "It's our fault as Americans and the sooner we get that fact in our heads the better things will be for everyone."  Made me sick.  We live in the greatest nation in the history of man, and even with our many faults I'd never go elsewhere...having been in several elsewheres and lived there.
This is all good info, but keep it in perspective.

Mooncruiser, I'd agree with that.  Modern airsoft is much like 80's paintball.  Skill is emphasized over gear and players were honorable.  In AA I'd say things are about as they were before my little break...some good and bad (granted, as I see it), meaning it's at least stable.  What's great about AA is that my second game was Op: Savage Garden 3 in Reno (Turd, not Cali...and yes, the Maxim stories did and still do frighten me to this day), and AA only fielded a six man team at that game.  We made the first "name" for Arizona airsofters at that game and did well enough that we were all remembered at the next big game we attended.  I missed LC4 recently, but heard that AZ took nearly a platoon to that event.  There's a change I applaud big time and I'm very proud of AA's growth.  I'm glad to be back and look forward to building it further in any was possible...though with adult players!!  (ducking multiple thrown objects...)

man, if all of you old farts could hook up at a game again I'd weep to play alongside you one more time.  Good memories, gents.

We currently have three positions filled:  Squad Leader, Grenadier/medic, and machinegunner.  That leaves a lot of room for positions and duties, and this is not a fly by night operation.  Truth told, Orion has been in the rebuilding phase for years now, and things fell together for us recently to allow this new push.  The organization is all there, I assure you, and you'll enjoy the structure.  It's not boot camp, but it is designed around the 8 man SEAL team concept, with eight specific positions/roles to be fulfilled.  That separates this idea from the usual "8 friends with guns" concept.
Vell is the point of contact on this as it's his baby, but I thought I'd add some to the sales pitch.  Players in their 20s-30s are sought, so if your joints ache, you're probably the right age!

Seriously, this is a unique setup, and if you're willing to put in the effort and go with the above requirements, the rewards will be there for you at the games.

Thanks

Doc, thanks for the PMs and the commiunication back and forth.  It's refreshing to met people who can discuss issues.

The rest of you completely miss or ignore the points I've made about minors.  It is not personal.  I do not care if you're awesome or a snot nosed brat.  I don't care where you got your gun, if you're willing to wait in line, or if you like real bananas in your milkshakes.  I don't care about the details beyond your age, and that puts my remarks in a totally different realm from that which you are consistently placing them.
I care about minors playing only because in the end it will not help this sport, period.  What's bad for airsoft, for any reason, I will take issue with.  If you really want to carry this on, PM me as Doc did.  I have five years' worth of reasons and proofs to back me up and if you still wish to take it personally after that, I can't stop you.

Doc, thanks again.

OK.  Do what you will and enjoy the game.  I never said they'd have colds.  I said it's a bad idea to encourage minors to play in a sport which by law they cannot even acquire their gear for.

You can have numbers, or you can have serious adult players.  A training outing doesn't mean flip when you're dealing with a minor who cannot be held responsible for his actions.

You're not alone in inspiring them to come out and I'm hardly in the majority in wanting to see airsoft remain the adult activity it was meant to be.

All of my background is in the firearms industry, and I've seen the laws and reasons for them changing over the past two decades.  Paintball is nowhere near as scrutinized as airsoft because of it's comparison to real firearms and the potential for misuse (assumed).  If you (all) ignore the clear fact that the public hates the idea of kids with guns (airsoft guns are now elevated in class above toys, beneath real firearms), then we will all soonor or later pay for that.  Once again, that's my point.

Good grief, ladies...  I really don't care one way or the other but this level of resentment is ridiculous.  This is a widely viewed board and stuff like this, where such whining over a television show is bantered about, reflects poorly.  I'm with the guy who said I'll give it one more week, and if at that point it hasn't improved, I'll simply stop watching it.  Sounds fairly simple, no?

"14+ ONLY"...  Major turnoff.

"10,000 rounds of ammo"...is everyone attending going as a machinegunner?

I'm really not a negative guy, and much of the op sounds well built, but this is not the way to promote airsoft or encourage serious players.  30 year-olds don't mingle with 14 year-olds in the real world unless they are their nephews, and 10,000 rounds, 36 hour game or not, is insane.  Pray and spray belongs in paintball.

Legally you have nothing to lose.  What your parents might do to you afterwards is unrelated and has little bearing on what happens to the sport.  You, personally, cannot lose what you don't legally have yet.  Don't play homeowner until you are one.

Guys, given the scope of the wars we are fighting in right now I can't believe they could even find a spare Hummer for this show.  Give them a wee break and you might like it.  It is just a TV show, after all.

Listen to the grown ups, young ones.  It's easy to say "it's his property and he can do what he wants on it" when you're not the one who'll be answering the tough questions later.  You most certainly can get into trouble on your own property.  Beyond city regs, all you really have to do is "concern" a neighbor and for the sake of the neighborhood relationship you can be told to cease and desist, in many different ways.  Keep airsoft out of the public eye, and we'll be able to keep airsoft.

Look at it this way:  If the neighbors do not mind, that's one hurdle down.  but the first errant BB that clears a fence and hits Neighbor Jr. in the face is going to have lasting consequences.

I'll say it again loudly, as it's been some time since I've done so.  I have ZERO patience for minors trying to dictate airsoft or any policies whatsoever.  Until you have legal standing (something to lose) you have no business trying to get my hobby banned or even more tightly regulated.  When the list of "count me in!" go-getters is mostly made up of minors, there is a problem.

I've never understood this question, as every CA I've ever owned has been a stronger gun than any TM I've owned.  TMs are good guns, no question, but they are not as durable or as reliable, long or short run, as the CA line.  Compare them part for part and it's pretty clear.

This does not mean my TMs have failed me.  They are well made guns.  CAs are simply moreso, and you can feel it and see it on the field.

Introduce Yourself! / New to many of you...

Name's Kyle and I was one of the first 6-10 members of AA back when it was first forming.  Only a few guys here have played with AA longer than I have, though many have played MORE than I have, if you get my meaning.  I'm one of those "old guys who got married and flaked out on the game by choosing family over the hobby" I guess!  I left for a little more than a year to try out some other things and I'm back now.
My first big game was Operation Savage Garden 3 in Nevada almost five years ago, and since then I've recruited for AA, helped form many of the rules and regs along with the Admin and several other "old guys" here, attended several large away games and generally tried to push airsoft forward.  I'm coming back to the game now and look forward to meeting you all, both old and new faces.  Not to be confused with old and new feces, which is less enjoyably met.  Spelling matters around here...

As a note to the newer players, AAs very first away game was Savage Garden 3 and there were 6 Arizona players there to represent the state.  Compare that to the massive numbers you posted for LC4 and you'll have a good idea how far AA has come.  As someone recently stated, AA has become synonymous with airsoft in Arizona.  I am proud of that and hope to see it continue.

Sorry for the book, but hey...that's what I do.
