Awesome, do we have any clue which spec ops unit got him? I'm guessing Army Special Forces.

Saguaro Airsoft Team

The quietest move is the most efficient one.

Task Force 145 is the team who tracked him and I'm guessing called in the airstrike.  TF-145 is comprised of Army Delta Operators, Navy SEALs, U.S. Army Rangers, the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, the Air Force’s 24th Special Tactics Squadron, British Special Air Service, and British paratroopers.

A precision airstrike. In addition to Zarqawi, seven of his lieutenants were also killed. Hopefully this will put the Al-Qaida leadership in enough of a shamble for the US to finally take control of that place.

i turn on the news this morning, expecting the usual BS... and i see "ZARQAWI KILLED IN AIR STRIKE" secondary to the capture of Saddam this was the most exciting moment in a long time.

Congrats to our boys over there, i wish they knew how much we really appreciate them.

Not an easy word to pronounce...

I'm glad this guy is gone....the world is a better place.  You can be wicked as you want but you will eventually pay the price.  Eternity is a very long time....not quite worth the gamble IMO.

The death of a human being is nothing to rejoice at...

...normally.

I'm glad this son of a bitch is gone.  From what I've heard though, it wasn't special forces that got him, the strike was carried out by F-16s.  And it probably was satellites and local intel that picked him up, I guess they were tailing his 'spiritual advisor.'  Really, who cares?  Point is, the mother**cker is dead, getting the shiite beat out of him by 71 angry Virginians.

Now the media is like:

"Zarqawi wasn't initially dead after the bombing.  He reportedly whispered something to the Iraqi police who arrived at the scene and tried to turn his face away from American soldiers when they arrived."

Who cares if he wasn't initially dead?  He's certainly dead now.

But I suppose the next question we need to ask is how will this effect that region?

From what I've read, it was a joint SEAL, Ranger, Delta, Green Beret, and Air Force Special Tactics team called task force 145 that called in the airstrike.

As to the reports that he wasn't dead, It figures that the media (ever sensitve to Arab sensibilities) tries to portray him as a "martyr" (however you spell it) valliantly defying "the great Satan".  My guess is that the Arab media in particular is going to try to make Zarqawi a hero out of this.

Though, this is a step forward.  Kill enough of their leaders and sooner or later they're going to run out of volunteers.

I think that this will be a big setback for the al Queda in Iraq, but you have to remember that there are multiple groups operating in the area.
