I would be wasting money! I have a really good radio, there is no need to go buy some shitty little FRS motorola when I have a radio that kicks ass.

I care, I don't spend a a$$load on milsim and then have a purple or neon yellow radio sticking out of a radio pouch. The 21-1860 has alot of features that most FRS radio's don't and I got it for very cheap. I don't want to hear about other radio's, just headsets. I just need to find out what type of plug exactly it is, I am now pretty sure its like the mono ICOM's. Only through trial and error am I going to fix this though.

I am suprised at the awesome level of customer support of IXRADIO so far. Their headsets are actually really nice, for the price of just 22 bucks.

Busta, have you tried going to Radio Shack? I understand that they used to make headsets and it would be resonable for them to fit thier radios.

Ha yeah, RS got rid of its good radio headsets though(the 15$ throat mic and their acoustic style ones) a long time ago. Bastards, But they could probably show me the right type of plug...Or maybe sell me a plug. Hmm thanks Jeff, I have been sick the last 2 days and feel pretty nard like.

I picked up a headset today. Its for a single plug, but i'm sure you can find an adapter somewhere. 17 bucks at the base exchange. It fits my little motorola well, but i need to field test it.

Busta You're such a kid son.  Mikey where has your memory gone, I had the same issuen wiring up your Otto Headset!

The issue Busta Bussss is your ground (or negative lead usually green or white wire) circuit associated with the ptt.  This is associated with and reserved for the microphone circuit.  On the headset you had, the ptt is oriented on the positive (sometimes red but normally black wire) lead or the speaker lead.  The headset will function as normal from the controls on the radio and audibles just fine, Until the ptt is actuated and the speaker volume goes away and nobody can hear you.

Did you get that?

OK Busta Buss Version.

Both of the ground wires are combined on your speaker wire.  The ptt is pushed it shorts out the speaker at the radio (possible radio damage here) the ground for the microphone is never made because it is soldered (yes in series or "together")to the speaker wire.  You have 2 plugs, the ground wires for both microphone and speaker are on one plug.  What you need is the correct ground to the correct plug and it will work.  A little "investigatory surgery" would have solved your issue!

Cough up some pop tart with that bit o knowledge Sucka!

I forgot about that one Hector.  We were able to get that headset to work though just without the PTT that was wired into the line.  The one headset accessory that I have that doesn't work in my 21-1860 is a helmet mount Telex Stinger.

Delta_echo:  Transmitting from a Motorola 7100 FRS/GMRS radio, I did not encounter any problems with people understanding me.  You HAVE TO hold the PTT button down for at least two seconds so the first part of your transmission doesn't get chopped off, but you have to do that on many for-real sets as well.  The PTT button is built like a tank, and is easily attached to your LBE.  The mic itself is solid and won't slip during use.  I used mine all through OP: Cold Burn, and was able to communicate with other players with no problem as long as the transmission wasn't walked on.   The thing to remember with throat mics is that you do have to vocalize in order to get the mic to pick up.  Whispering does not cause the voicebox in your throat to resonate enough for the mic to pick anything meaningful up.  The Gladiator is, IMO, several steps above a FireFox (which I also have), and is probably the best you'll find this side of a full-scale LASH rig.

Busta:  Have you actually had any experience with the Pryme Gladiator yourself?

Well after being really nice and sick for the last two days I finally got to play with my headset..This one has the right connector! All I can say so far is, DAMN! This is one impressive piece for costing me about 22 bucks. The transponder and acoustic tube idea is nothin new but its actually got some great sound quality. It is also comfortable to wear, and since earbuds don't ever stay in my ear, this one stays in there and doesn't come out, the acoustic tube loop goes over the ear and down the neck or wherever. It comes with two ear inserts to better fit different people.

Overall, for the price even after shipping, the value is great. Ill give an AAR after I use it on the 23rd. The entire problem with the PTT was simply cause they sent me the wrong version with a stereo headset jack.

Also, if anyone is interested, I want to sell this other headset. Its the standard 2.5/3.5 2 pin with a stereo 2.5 plug.

Well the radio doesn't have any problems at all. I got it from www.ixradio.com , Ken is a great guy and I have spoken to him on the phone on one occasion along with a few dozen emails, lol. But all in all, he worked out my problem. This headset I have might actually work for an ICOM F4.... They also sell throat mics and lapel mics too.

Mine cost 22.90 shipped..
