General Airsoft Discussion / Mich TC-2000 Helmet Group Buy
« on: August 02, 2005, 12:32:01 AM »
Mikey showed me these eBay auctions for replica TC-2000 helmets - (Helmet on eBay)

I know I want one for Op Irene and I think there are probably others that do as well.  This guy has them available in tan, olive drab, and black.  Raith and I are hoping to get a group buy together to perhaps cut the guy a deal.

In order to figure this out and get some numbers to give to the guy, I want to find out who would be interested in one.  You don't have to be going to Irene to pick one up, but we're probably going to require money up front to prevent deadbeats.

List:
Kurn - Tan
Raith - Tan
Ganef - Tan
studdermonkey - Tan
Nil8r - Tan
Vince - Tan
Mugen - Tan
gixser13 - Tan
Victor3 - Tan (2001, if possible)
MicrowvbleTurtle - Tan (only if 2001 or 2002 can be ordered)
azsarge - OD (only if 2002 can be ordered)
Shado - Tan (2002, if possible)
-MAD- SARGE - Tan (2002 or 2000)

Has anyone checked this out?  It's similar to Google Maps, but a lot cooler.

General Off-Topic Discussion / Batman Begins
« on: June 16, 2005, 02:16:37 AM »
Saw it Wednesday with Raith, Ganef, Nil8r, and Nil8r's wife.

In my opinion it was the perfect Batman movie.  I would highly recommend it.  Hopefully they will make another one in the same style (with Mark Hamill as Joker!).

I liked it so much I think I might go see it a second time at the IMAX theater.

General Off-Topic Discussion / Question about overtime wages
« on: January 24, 2005, 11:11:09 PM »
Here's the situation:

Two weeks ago I work 46 hours.  Last week I worked 48 hours.  I was paid this week, and I was expecting to receive 14 hours of overtime pay (time-and-a-half of my normal wage).  When I got my check it was less than I was expecting, so I did the math, and found that I had been paid my normal wage for all of the hours I worked.  Thinking that this was an accounting error, I asked my boss about it.  She informs me that she doesn't pay overtime wages, and does not have to since her business makes less than a certain amount of money a year (I believe she said it was 1/2 million).

Does anyone know of this?  I have never heard of such a thing.

AEG's / M14 Mini Review
« on: July 27, 2004, 09:16:07 PM »
I recently bought an Airsoft Club M14.  Before ordering, I read as much as I could find about it.  Everything I found said that it's not a gun that can be used reliably right out of the box.  It seems that everyone who has bought one has had problems.  Knowing this, I still bought it.  I determined that any problems it may have could be fixed with a minimum amount of money and effort.

When I received it, I was pleasantly surprised.

It seemed to be put together well, and didn't have any of the major problems that other people have had.  After looking at it for awhile, I did find several things that would need to be taken care of:

The flash hider was bent to the left.  I don't think it would have blocked a BBs path, but it was noticeable.  The castle nut is also missing a tooth (I broke a second tooth off when removing the flash hider).

The rear sling mount was very wobbly.  Looking into the stock, I could see why.  It was mounted very poorly.

There is a small metal piece that covers a screw on the left side of the gun.  It is only held in by friction, and I am sure it would fall out quickly in a game.

Now the good things:

There is very little plastic on this gun.  The only plastic I have found is the stock itself, the hand guard, and the battery compartment door (on the rear of the stock).  That being said, these few plastic parts are not of the highest quality.  While the stock has a beautiful wood finish to it, it still feels plasticy, and is not as solid as I hoped it would be.  The hand guard is very flimsy, and is about the only part of the gun that looks bad (I'm hoping to replace it with a real one soon).  The battery door is also made of cheap plastic, but this does not really matter since is hidden by the metal stock plate.

The rest of the gun, however, is metal.  The metal parts seem to well made, and have a very nice finish.  I am glad that I didn’t spend the extra money for the steel outer barrel, since the stock one is metal, and more than adequate.

The way the M14 is put together is rather clever.  There are no screws that hold the metal parts to the stock.  The trigger assembly clamps onto the upper part of the gun, which makes the whole thing very sturdy.  It also makes it very easy to disassemble.  With a single Allen wrench I can take it apart in about a minute.

I really like the mags for this gun.  They are metal, and have the same finish as the gun itself.  They are quite heavy, and seem to be very sturdy.

I have already made several improvements:
I was able to find a real M14 flash hider at a gun show to replace the original one.  I have also painted the stock and hand guard.  Not only does this improve the looks of the gun, but it also helps the stock feels better, and keeps the hand guard from looking as cheap.  I also used some epoxy to better secure the rear sling mount so that is does not rattle.

Soon, it will be modified to shoot semi auto only, and I will upgrade the internals to a higher FPS.  Hopefully it will be ready for the next AA game.

Overall, I like this gun.  I would not recommend it to a newbie, but a seasoned Airsofter should be able to work around this gun’s quirks.  It will be interesting to see how the upcoming TM M14 will compare.

Site Suggestions / Classified Area Suggestions
« on: February 05, 2004, 09:27:02 PM »
I find it very annoying when people post in the Classifieds section and do one or more of the following:
-Have never posted before, and/or just registered on the forums
-Do not fill out their profile
-Are not in AZ (Especially when they do not say as such in their profile/ad)

It also irritates me that the Classified rules 4 and 10 are ignored by many, including long time posters and mods.

I therefore suggest the following.  Limit posting in the Classified area to those who have a certain number of posts, and/or have been registered on the forums for a certain amount of time.  Add a rule (not that anyone reads or follows them [:P]) that any out of state sellers must say as such in their ad or at least in their profile.  Make it so that when an ad is posted, it is automatically locked, and can only be added to or edited by the seller or a mod.  Finally, have a mod in charge of the classifieds.  He/she’s responsibility would be to keep the ads free of clutter, and make sure the stated rules are followed.

I have no experience with managing forums, so I have no idea if any of the above would actually be doable (or if anyone else thinks it would be a good idea)

(The above is a rant, please read it as such.  Also, it is a general gripe, and not about any one particular post or person)

Airsoft Equipment Specials / FRS Radios/ Accessories at Radio Shack
« on: March 20, 2003, 07:43:37 PM »
Radio Shacks are clearing out some of their FRS radios and radio accessories.  Each store I've been to in the last couple of days have had different things on sale at different prices, so you may want to look around.  I was able to buy a nice radio, PTT adapter, and headset for less then $50. [:)]
