Question about overtime wages

Here's the situation:

Two weeks ago I work 46 hours.  Last week I worked 48 hours.  I was paid this week, and I was expecting to receive 14 hours of overtime pay (time-and-a-half of my normal wage).  When I got my check it was less than I was expecting, so I did the math, and found that I had been paid my normal wage for all of the hours I worked.  Thinking that this was an accounting error, I asked my boss about it.  She informs me that she doesn't pay overtime wages, and does not have to since her business makes less than a certain amount of money a year (I believe she said it was 1/2 million).

Does anyone know of this?  I have never heard of such a thing.

Not sure buddy. Sounds kinda fishy. Maybe there is a site reguarding overtime wages that might explain it or something. I'll give it a quick search, and post what i find.

You work overtime, you get paid overtime. I can't find any kind of exceptions anywhere, so I'd say contact the DoL office nearest with the link on the bottom of that page and check, then raise all kinds of hell. Or let us know that we need to work for businesses that make more than 1/2 a million a year.

Is her company based out of Arizona?. Other states have differnt labor laws. But I know Arizona if you work over time more then 40 hours a week That is time and half..Sounds like one for the Labor board..I had to use there servise before They dont mess around....got my monies in 3 weeks from the day I filed

It also depends on how you are paid.  For example, technically I am "salaried", though if I work only 72 hours in a pay period instead of 80, I get paid for only the 72.

We used to have "overtime" where we got paid for extra time, but at our normal rate.  Management decided that they would stop paying the overtime, then spent 2-3 months trying to figure out why productivity dropped suddenly.  

If you are truly paid hourly, then I believe you are entitled to time-and-a-half overtime.

If you are Non-exempt (meaning hourly) you work over 40 hrs in a week, you'd better get time and a half. I ran into OT issues a number of years back and researched the laws. If you want more info let me know. To make a long story short....they gave all of us the title "project manager", made us exempt so they could get away with not paying us time and a half. Well the law states if you spend more than 20% of your day doing the same work as your subordinates (of which we had none) you a re not a mgr, thus not exempt. Yes we ended up getting time and a half, with back pay.....thank you very much.

I do get paid hourly.  I'm going to talk to her again today about it.

I'm not that angry about the money.  I want to be paid what I am entitled, of course, but what really bothers me about this is that nothing was said before hand.  The week I worked 48 hours was also the first week of school, and was very exhausting.  If I had known I wasn't going to be paid overtime, I probably wouldn't have taken the extra hours.  I'm also one the senior employees (and the hardest working one) so this is very insulting.  It basically tells me that even though I am very hardworking, and I go out of my way to do extra work that is not required of me, I'm not worth paying that little bit more.  I'm very tempted to give my two weeks notice.

Nope. It starts where you work for a company called Volt, and you're contracted to 2Wire. Depending on how good you are 2Wire hires you perm after X months , seems to vary based on how you do on the phones. I think right now they're aiming for about 6-12 if you're good, but some people have been hired perm in as few as 3.
