Upgrades gone wrong
« on: August 17, 2007, 06:39:46 PM »
Ok, so I have an SRC M16A2. I wanted to up grade it so, I got:

-Metal spring guide
-New shims
-M110 spring
-CA Helical gears.
(In case it might come up, I intent on buying metal bushings)

I had a buddy of mine do the gear box work for me, and when he got it done, it worked for him. When I picked it up, and brought it home, it didn't work. I first adjusted the motor ever-so-slightly. Nothing. Then my friend brought over his 9.6V, the gun the worked for 30rd.s or so, sounded nice, then it stopped working. I tested an other 9.6V in it, and nothing. I know the motor works though, I tested it out of the gear box.

Does anyone know what might be wrong? Anything I could do with the gun now to make it work? I don't want to take apart the gearbox. Anything else I need to buy since I upgraded the gun?

Thanks,
-Jon

It could be shimmed way too tight.

The other battery might have had a higher discharge rate.

Same gun, upgrades?

My second friends 9.6V is a 4200mah. That didn't even work.

Then its probally shimmed too tight, take it to APD and have them do the upgrades.

I think I'm going to to that Pilz.

But the thing is, they say they don't work on SRC. Which sucks for me. But the thing is that mines a TSD one. I know TSD and SRC are together now, but I wondering if they don't work on plan SRC, or both. I doubt that though. I'd like to like they would. I'll be calling tomorrow.

You could take it to Paul or Jermiah at the Tempe JT.

I'll do that if APD turns me down.

I'd rather have APD do it though since they do it faster. JT(Used to be JT) guys are VERY slow at working on guns. They do get it done though.

I once needed a new piston put into an AK I used to have, and it took them 2 weeks to do it.

Regardless of the time it takes them they do a excellent job on their upgrades.

Really? They don't speak English at JT anymore? They hire illegals?

I know Paul know what he's doing when it comes to AEGs.

Thank you guys.

You've obviously never stepped foot into an Arizona JT.

And yes, we're still the same guys...

Ehh, I think I'm going to set my gun at what is now "The Gearbox" (Used-to-be-JT), and let one of them check it out. Most likely bad shim job, or needs a better motor.

Thanks for the info people.
