Modify Parts
« on: February 01, 2011, 02:10:17 PM »
Just wanna know what the general feeling is towards some upgrade parts, mostly modify. Im thinking a modify s100 full tune up kit, torus reinforced shell, modify high speed gears, King Arms silver cord wiring and switch assembly, and a g&P 120 motor.
Any personal experience or different recommendations are appreciated.

Most modify parts are OKAY. Not great, but they usually work alright.

King arms wireset and g&p m120 motor... I HIGHLY recommend these. :D

I generally prefer the guarder parts to modify (I say this only because guarder makes FTK's as well).

Slightly left-field question... If you're replacing 95% of your gearbox, mostly with budget parts... why not just get a prebuilt gearbox?

Well because every place I have looked they are sold out of the pre-builts i'm interested in. Plus other than the few they don't have i don't really know which pre-built gearboxes are of good quality.  If you could point me in the right direction for one of those i would appreciate that too.

I hear the systema boxes are nice (albeit they can be expensive). I don't use prebuilts, so I really can't share any experience with you. I like modify for the cheapy polycarb piston and piston head, but I have had bad experiences with their nozzles, spring bearing guides, and springs.

Dude modify parts kick ass.. the only time i'v ever seen them fail was if they were installed wrong or warn to hell from like a years worth of use..

A. A part shouldn't fail after a year's worth of use.

B. Bad experience isn't necessarily a failure. Some examples: their spring guides often come with poorly toleranced tabs, which don't allow them to securely mount into some gearboxes, or to mount at all in others. Their main-springs are inconsistent in the same power-rating, often allowing more than a 10 or 15% FPS difference between different springs of the same rating. Replacement nozzles don't always fit, or can fit too loosely... I had one that wouldn't fit on a systema cylinder head, and one that fit loose, but provided almsot no airseal.

He said years.

Possessive form.

At least I hope SLINKEY meant that.

No, he said "A years" worth, indicating a single period.

Parts should last a while, this is where ICS, G&P, Gaurder, Systema, and Area 1000 (Systema knockoff) come into there own. Also had good luck with Matrix..... which is weird.

Well Everyone has there own opinion, there the only parts i'v been using for the last 3 years and they work great for me, The modify torus gear box's are great Mb shells they work great in Under freezing conditions. In the North west winters, at over 450 fps

The Part i said were lasting like "a years" worth of use are there High speed gears. A 13v custom battery chewed them up after about 13 months. Thats actually pretty danm good wear for shooting close to 30 Rps for 13 months.

Sorry i ment "a years" worth of use, Playing every weekend.

I don't have experiences with their gearboxes. Working well in cold is great though, glad to hear it. My stock king arms does 600 in all weather without batting an eye, so I haven't had to replace a shell yet. If I ever do though, I suppose I'll give one a shot. The price is definitely right.

If you chewed up gears... ever... under any conditions where they worked for more than 100 rounds... it's most likely your fault through bad shimming, poor lubrication, cleaning, etc. I had stock cyma gears running over 400 fps on an 11.1v 2800mah 30c lipo... little over 23rps every weekend in a LOANER gun (reads... extended full-auto shooting. silly nooblets and their lack of trigger control). Still look like new.

+1 I have never had a gearset ever strip out or be ruined on me, with the exception of 1 CA Sporter I used to own, and as a loaner, it was ABUSED.

Some of my guns are easily in the 30-40rps. Great example is my G&P, Im the third+ owner, and the gun is still completely stock, Im getting an easy 27-33rps on an 11.1v lipo, never had any problems.

I will recommend G&P and ICS until the cows come home.

i'd love to see some proof of it hitting 30 BBPS stock, and some proof of 40 bbps. you can download a RPM analizer at trinityairsoft.com.

Like 70% of the guns i'v seen on the field here, Are pretty un-impressive on how they sound. "Shimming wise"

I will take a vid at saturdays game and audible it. As for the 40, I do not have it in tucson, I will bring it to the next RU game I go to in Phoenix, and you all can oggle over it there.

If you know of G&P, especially the older ones, the estimate of between 27-33 rps stock is no idle boast. They are incredible.

You have pretty impressive ROF's.. I have a long list of guns in the available arsenal.. from Magpul PTS Masadas, m60, m249, TM g3, CA G36, etc, etc, etc and according to my chrono some of them barely float around 30 BPS with my 11.1v 20c 5000mah lipo (100A continuous 200A peak discharge battery). They aren't built using high-speed gears, but some of them have magnum motors and even still don't have the kind of ROF that some people claim to have.

It's either BS guesswork or I'm jealous.
