Radio question
« on: June 11, 2007, 04:32:03 PM »
Hey all
Just want to double check; will the radio pictured below work with the ones we use at battles? It says FRS on the box packaging.
I just want to make sure before I buy accesories for it.
Second, does anybody know of what a good ear piece will work with this? The one it comes with is just a standard ear-bud that falls out after a while.
As always, thanks for your help!

Pryme, at www.pryme.com, makes excellent radio products and accessories. I am sure you can find something there to suit your needs. Although I have never personally used them, I have never heard any complaints.

Pryme stuff is pretty decent, I used one of those over-the-ear headsets for years. Fry's Electronics carries a good selection, and has a liberal return policy if it doesn't work out for you.

I am looking at buying a Midland FRS/GMRS radio.  Will this radio work, and does anybody have experience with Midland?

I read that one.  I did not know if different manufacturers program their radios with different codes.

I have tried Midland and did not care for them.  I then went to Motorola and liked the frs/gmrs a lot better.  For when you are starting to get your gear together and need to spread the money around a little I would go with Motorola.  Look for ones that do not have a "page" button or see if the "page" button can be deactivated.  There is nothing worse than trying to be stealthy and then have someone else hit a "page" button and you have that loud tone go off in your ear.

When you go to look for an ear piece and mic, and you will at some point, I have found a lot more options for the Motorola.

The best radio out there is a lot more expensive, but in my opinion is well worth the money:  ICOM F4-S4.  These can be programed with FRS/GMRS Freq's.

All FRS are the same and all GMRS are the same.  Most radios today have both set of Frequencies and will work with each.  At games we always use FRS channels because most people have FRS or the FRS / GMRS Combo.

What you should really do is save your money, and buy an ICOM. Tom, at www.reddogradios.com, offers a tremendous deal to all of us here at AA.
