I think you're looking at this backwards Nate.  Normally you're using your sniper rifle as the primary and carrying a compact AEG as a back up.  That's the way the real operators do it anyway.

Plus, if you're looking for a sniper rifle with realistic weight, it wouldn't make a very good backup.

VSR-10 G-Spec
After having read the review of it on Renegade Recon I must say it has caught my intrest. One thing I have always looked out for is a compact sniper system that could be carried in conjunction with a main weapon as backup for distance combat. This rifle seems to fit the bill but I was wondering what the rest of you thought of this concept. One downside to it is it seems that it's not all that realistic in weight etc.

Ya Ya Ya, i know it's almost a year old, but i didn't wanna start a new thread if this one was allready here. My frined bought the g-spec from JT in Cali, and it's sweet! dead on the red dot scope, and quiet..........talk about quiet, it's sounds like someone blowing spitballs with a straw!! great gun! Why would you mount a red dot on a sniper rifle? That beats the hell out of me..

:-({|= What's wrong with having a red dot scope on a sniper rifle? cross-hairs versus red dot.... and that's what came with the gun too, so free beats payin 4 bucks for it if u don't really want it. :P  [smilie=armata_pdt_36.gif]

For awhile i used my aimpoint on my M24 while it was stock.  No point in using a scope when you cant hit what you can see.  Now that my guns upgraded to the limit the scope helps.  Plus if you are in a smaller area the aimpoint is alot easier to use.

I've also been looking at the G-Spec. It has so many upgrade possibilites and it's just a hot gun. I just don't know where in the valley I can pick one up!

Okay, here's my .02:

The fact that it is more compact has its advantages.  When crawling through the brush, I often snagged my APS2 making it difficult to manage.  Also, when having to swing my rifle in another direction quickly, the longer barrel took more time, especially in the prone position.  If the shorter barrel doesn't make it less accurate...I'd use it for sure.

As far as the red dot...I think it is a great idea.  I remember a sniper in Iraq using an M21 and a red dot that made several kills.  At the distances we play at a red dot would work.  If they make one that is 2-4X magnification, that would be great.
