I'm considering getting one of the Star L85's, when they come out, and I'm just wondering if anyone has had any experience with Star guns? Good, bad?

I must say i was saddened when i was shopping for my first AEG to find that there was not a decent L85 on the market. Honestly, I was really thinking about waiting for this to come out, but my urge to get a gun now overcame this impulse. Well, I guess this was a good choice, I read reviews of the Star UMP on Arnies airsoft and they seemed rather disapointed in the product.

I'm assuming you're talking about www.arniesairsoft.co.uk , right? If so, give me a link to this supposed review, because when I looked at their review section, I saw no review for any Star gun, UMP or otherwise...

Edit: Ok, I partly take it back... I finally did find a review of it by... some guy... Who says himself that he probably got a lemon.  I choose to go by what Zero One says though. ;)

Keep in mind with STAR weapons the majority of the gun will be comprised of plastic parts and in some models that includes the mech box. While they are typically lower priced I personally would not want to pay for the true cost of ownership from AEG with a plastic mech box.

I'm not to keen on STAR myself. I've read quite a few reviews etc. and heard stories on their crane stocks, not impressed to say the least.

And if you've ever worked on a gearbox you'll wonder how in the world you could have a plastic one....

I do recall Dave mentioning that STAR was going to release a pretty high-end AEG pretty soon though. He showed it to me once, but I can't find it.

I got one on order. It hasnt hit the venders yet but I am on the list to be ONE of the first State Side. I guess Stars/Guarder loved my m14 collection I sent them a pic of

New STAR Performance Mechbox for M249
STAR is coming out with its own drop-in mechbox for the Top and Classic Army M249 AEG. These mechboxes are pre-tuned and upgraded, ready to replace your standard mechbox. Whats unique is that the outer shell is actually constructed out of a special kind of reinforced plastic, this seems rather strange but maybe they chose this material because its absorbs shock better. These mechboxes come in 3 flavours, red, green and yello. The red one is the highest performance of them all, designed for long range range and power. I thought about getting it, but it's a bit more expensive then I'd like... Or can afford. ;)  From what I've read, it's really nice though.

Damn, if it's in that price range you're getting a steal.  I've seen them for $900+USD overseas.  One of my "contacts" in Hong Kong (for the magazine) told me he got his hands on one for the equiv of $850USD, so... yeah.
Where you ordering it from?  I waaaant one :D

I received my Star M249 Para today.

Plastic, yeah, but sturdy too. The gearbox is cool, it looks like it is hard enough to deal with normal wear-and-tear.

Anyhow, back on topic: love that M14 SOP.
