I'd like to chime in here as well.  But with what i'd have to say it would sound slightly like bragging.  So I'll just say my life is in electronics and the products I have helped these companies develop, manufacture, stream line their process and release to the worldwide market is in everyone of your homes either now or at some point of your life.

I Must Add This Though!  Go to College and Get Your Degree!  It Will Get you The Higher Earning Jobs!  Your Quality of Life Will Be Better!  Get The Degree, It's Worth Doing, You'll Have Fun Doing It and EVERYONE Loves Being Surrounded By College Coeds!

Do It,,,

My dad tells me to write that he was a sonar technician on the USS Toledo and the USS Cincinatti
(SSN 769 and SSN 693?) uh both were submarines. Now he is lead tech for Busch SVG. Some semiconductor job. Well I'm am now going to tell him to make his own account and stop making me write his posts.

I'm currently a wildland firefighter for the federal government. Never before have I had a job that I look forward to waking up at 6am to drive an hour to work. If your into physical activity, its fun stuff. Most people don't differentiate between wildland firefighter, and a firefighter.

I went to EVIT, a technical school, for the past 2 years studying structural firefighting and got to do some intense training through that, as well as training with Gilbert Fire Department for the past 2 years. I was offered a job with the Bureau of Land Management to do wildland, and accepted it.

Its not city, but I still love it. Whats fun? I had the job offered to me a week before I graduated high school, and was working the weekend after graduation. Great stuff huh?

Like someone above said, structural firefighting is extremley competitive. For 50 positions, you have 3500 people applying for the position. The only way to ensure your spot is to goto college and get every related certification and class you can. I'm getting my EMT-B in the fall, and will be hopefully be getting my FF1 and FF2 certifications shortly after that.

Personally, if you want to get on, apply EVERYWHERE. Not just the big ones (Phoenix, Glendale, Mesa, Tempe, etc) but everywhere you can (Goodyear, Sun City, Sun City West, Sun Lakes, Apache Junction, Gilbert, Chandler, Peoria, Scottsdale, Avondale, Guadalupe)

Easily, a career in public saftey will be one of the most rewarding you can find.

Wildland is tough shit, man.  I'm glad you enjoy it.

You'll love EMT training.  I did it about a year ago, most fun I've ever had in school.  Then I actually got to put some of it into use riding along with the fire department, helping out at a car accident.

If you're going for FF1 and 2, I'd recommend PVCC.  They actually run it at the Phoenix Fire Academy, you get to do some cool live burns and whatnot.  The skills course equates to torture, though...

And you're right about public safety, I can't imagine wanting to do anything else for a career.

Well I kinda already decided. I'm just gonna join the police, put in three years, then transfer to something else or become a Federal Marshal after 1. Since I have family that was high ranking in the Marshal service now NSA.

I won't join the military. I saw what it did to my grandpa and I'm a clone of him. He was an amazing soldier with countless decoration and field commitions, but he always having nightmares and regretting what he did.

Its just a pain in the butt getting a job on fire. The Wife or well going to be the wife as of Sunday is a teacher. Cant take the heat any longer must end it NOW..... the "40" is looking rather good right now. To Bad the woman will beat me to death again, if I dont go to the wedding.

I'm a Zoomie at the Air Force Academy up here by CO Springs (but my home is Tucson for you new guys). Sure, the schooling's free, but they kick the crap out of you in return. Planning on going into EOD as soon as possible after graduation.

I'm in college right now, working on a degree in Aerospace Engineering. Thinking of changing it to another engineering, or possibly math...but not sure yet.

However, I probably won't even use it, cause I'll be commisioning into the AF after college, and I want to be a Combat Controller. (aka Laser designating targets to get them blown up).

Right now, I'm working as a low wattage systems technician for my dad's security company. However, a job change may come soon and I may be getting into cinematography soon (aka making movies).
