Dave, is the system from 02/03 or just the video card? If the system is that age, it should have an AGP slot, even if you aren't currently using it. That said, if you only have PCI slots you have an extremely limited upgrade path. You should really hold off and upgrade the motherboard as well. If you take off the side of your case, the PCI slot is what any modems, network cards, TV Tuners, etc would be plugged into. If all the slots are the same then, yes, all you have are PCI slots. If the video card is in an inset, longer slot then you have an AGP slot.
The Catalyst control panel can also tell you, but I don't recall how to find that information off hand since I haven't had an ATI card in years.
All you need to utilize your monitor properly is a DVI port. Utilizing it at it's native resolution while playing games is a totally different story.
He was trying to insult me I presume for asking yo to specify PCI or PCI X
No, that was directed at Chris. I told him that the existing card is not available in PCI-e therefore his question didn't require an answer. That was not directed at your PCI-X statement.
That said, they don't make PCI-X video cards, so that question is moot as well. It doesn't matter if he has any PCI-X slots (and I am willing to bet money he doesn't) because that has nothing to do with what he is asking about.
PCI-e is NOT backwards compatible with PCI. PCI-X is, but doesn't apply to video cards. Software has nothing to do with this, so I have no idea what your previous post is talking about. I think maybe you are confusing PCI-e and PCI-X.
