WTB: Graphics card
« on: August 14, 2007, 10:33:32 PM »
I have a ATI Raedon 9200, 128mb graphics card from ~2002/3?  I'm in the need of a graphics card that's better than this, VGA & DVI-D output, and a TV tuner would be money...

It's a Radeon 9200, that should answer your question.

Dave, what is your price range and what do you need it to do?

Excuse me, the question was not directed at you it was directed at Dave.

QUOTED DIRECTLEY FROM AMD AND ATI SITES

"The Radeonâ„¢ 9200 is available in both AGP and PCI bus configurations"

You need to specify PCI or PCI X. :P

PCI express is not PCI.  You asked if he needed PCI-e or AGP.  I'm pointing out its not available in PCI-e artard.

PCI-x is backwards compatible , so it really doesn't  matter.

Um price range: dunno, make me an offer, or I'd be willing do some trades (got a few pistols, just found some old Moto-x gear, etc...).

And for PCI or AGP, or any of that, I'm computer parts retarded.  How would I be able to tell?  If it helps, I have a Sony Vaio PCV-RS 430G (yeah, pretty old).

Sorry I didn't respond sooner, I've been busy with muh job.  Put in 12 hours today, and it's all volunteer until the season starts lol... I'm poor as fuck.

PCIe hardware is backwards compatible with PCI software on the Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Windows XP operating systems.

You are AGP. How much more power do you need? I ask because AGP cards are now pretty expensive for the level of performance you get. AGP is quite a bottleneck so what is a good card in PCIe will not nessesarily be a good card in AGP. I ended up upgrading my Mobo in order to use the PCIe because of this.

I'm hoping that wasn't directed towards me, I would not appreciate such a statement. And if it's not, please do not start an argument in my thread.

I'd like to be able to use my new monitor (22") to it's full capacity, because I might be moving to the midwest soon, and not a lot of space for a large TV.

Also, how do I know for sure it's an AGP, I was told by a friend it's PCI (granted he's never seen my computer before).

Dave, is the system from 02/03 or just the video card?  If the system is that age, it should have an AGP slot, even if you aren't currently using it.  That said, if you only have PCI slots you have an extremely limited upgrade path.  You should really hold off and upgrade the motherboard as well.  If you take off the side of your case, the PCI slot is what any modems, network cards, TV Tuners, etc would be plugged into.  If all the slots are the same then, yes, all you have are PCI slots.  If the video card is in an inset, longer slot then you have an AGP slot.

The Catalyst control panel can also tell you, but I don't recall how to find that information off hand since I haven't had an ATI card in years.

All you need to utilize your monitor properly is a DVI port.  Utilizing it at it's native resolution while playing games is a totally different story.

No, that was directed at Chris.  I told him that the existing card is not available in PCI-e therefore his question didn't require an answer.  That was not directed at your PCI-X statement.

That said, they don't make PCI-X video cards, so that question is moot as well.  It doesn't matter if he has any PCI-X slots (and I am willing to bet money he doesn't) because that has nothing to do with what he is asking about.

PCI-e is NOT backwards compatible with PCI.  PCI-X is, but doesn't apply to video cards.  Software has nothing to do with this, so I have no idea what your previous post is talking about.  I think maybe you are confusing  PCI-e and PCI-X.
