Gas Powered Guns / M700 A.I.C.What?! *updated 01/29/10*
« on: December 11, 2009, 05:01:26 PM »
I have been tinkering around alot lately with both the tanaka m700 base and KJW m700 series. Both have their ups and downs. Right now I am having a local machine shop machine some custom parts for the project. My goal is to reach out as far as possible. Right now unless you upgrade a VSR-10 or APS2 to 600+ FPS, most can Only reach about 250-275ft accurately, at most. At this range, the spring and parts are under alot of pressure and are broken often. With a a gas gun, these problems are aleviated. Gas guns do have their downfall; they are affected by temperature which affects gas pressure, as well as smaller variations in seals and pressure.

Some things to Expect:

-Nitrogen or compressed air powered
-Remote 3000psi tank to dual regulator setup, adjustable up to 700fps or about 150psi.
-VSR10 barrel / hop up based with a PDI cold rolled steel 6.01 555mm inner barrel.
-Either a SCS hopup knub or custom knub
-Custom Delrin barrel spacers with o-rings to absorb vibration
-20-22in outer barrel
-custom 40mmx250mm suppressor w/ baffles and custom adapter built into outer barrel end cap.
-Maximum engagement distance around 450ft

Optics can be included or left out.

The thread is to gauge whether there is an interest locally for a piece like this. It will be an extremely affordable alternative to something like a Right Hook Fabrication rifle that start around $1200 and top out right around $2000.

EDIT: Thanks to whoever moved this. ;)
Update 01/28/10

So in my quest to find a local machinist to build one off parts here and there I met a guy named Mike, Mike owns several business including a small machine shop..after getting to know him and getting some ideas of what things might cost..I asked him if he had ever taught anyone and he had..I offered my free apprenticeship services and he obliged. So for the last Month or so I have been watching, working and learning. I finally got to the point where I could make some crafty pieces on my own. And thus, the first piece I can post.

The job was for a custom m700 AICS. The Tanaka outer barrel is crap and is slam extruded by ramming it over a steel or iron rod.. After getting it back to spec I cut the barrel down to length(14.5in) then faced and cut the inside. I then created a 1.5mm 90* chamfer for the cap to sit against.

The cap was created from a round stock of T6-6061 and produce by hand tooling only. No CNC was used. First I drilled the inner barrel hole, then started making cuts and passes on the outer surfaces. Then I used the mill to cut the 14mm negative threading..This took about nine passes and some help from my mentor. next came outer reliefs for the O rings that would seat the cap into the outer barrel. The last part I had to wait for because I had to order a special relief tool for the inner reliefs. Once I got this I cut the inner reliefs for the inner barrel O rings.

The final product is within .0015 tolerances and a VERY tight fit into the outer barrel and inner barrel. This was done purposefully to avoid any movement or having to use barrel spacers.

I have not polished the end cap yet So tooling marks are still there, and the junk all over it is DOW 55, an oring lube/sweller.

Update 1/29/10

Finally got around to fitting it up. Very snug, no play what so ever with a 290mm suppressor. Usually I like to 'cold press' these types of pieces into place. For anyone unfamiliar with that process, you machine the pieces to the same spec, then freeze the piece going inside with liquid nitrogen and push it in..Once you get around 50 below, the pieces are there for good.

Update 2/18/10

Been working on some new magazine and trigger parts.

Chrono Results from the last few trials.

Although cryo treating the trigger parts isn't needed, it seems to keep the consistency up quite a bit due to the hardness of the contact surfaces.

Gas Powered Guns / R134a
« on: November 21, 2009, 01:36:17 AM »
Kind of an interesting find... Aparantly the molecular weight of R134a is very heavy.. Just thought I would share..

Some data info on Propane(green gas), red gas (HCFC-22, R22) etc etc..

Propane(Green gas) @ 70F is 109PSI, 44 Molecular weight

R22(red gas) @ 70F is 128PSI, 86 molecular weight

R134a(duster gas) @70F is 70PSI, 102 molecular weight

Makes sense now doesn't it? ](*,)

Also, Nitrogen's molecular weight is 28...Pure oxygen is around 32..and since the air in the lower atmosphere is about 70% nitrogen anyways, 'air' is sitting right around 29 weight.

So theoretically what this means is that if we really wanted to get the most out of our gas guns, we really should be using a lighter gas like nitrogen or compressed air that is regulated from a high pressure tank. Obviously because the magazines these guns use are of low quality metal and seals, we can't really run these low density gases efficiently.

Any thoughts or comments please feel free to add.

Ok so i have the Takedown version of the KJW m700. It is in FLAWLESS condition with less than 100 rounds through it. Nothing wrong with it except i need the NON takedown version for what I want to accomplish. I am will to either trade or sell the m700 TD, or buy your regular version if it is in good shape. Thanks.

Gas Powered Guns / Some propane data/green gas
« on: November 06, 2009, 05:46:26 PM »
So, whether you want to believe it or not, it has been pretty well documented(or from what some great sources have informed) that green has IS propane..why doesn't it smell like propane? Well that is because any propane you find for sale will already have the odor additive in it..

So why does my GBB or Gas powered gun shoot so radically ? IE: bad in cold weather, really hot in hot weather!?
Vapor Pressure at 0°F     28 PSI
Vapor Pressure at 70° F    122 PSI
Vapor Pressure at 100° F    190 PSI

As you can see...this is why! I got this info off of Amerigas' website by the way, So i am pretty confident that it is good info.

This is the main reason why the cooldown effect IS REAL and does effect your gun's performance..Now on the contrary...the amount of pressure required to actually operate your GBB/NBB at it's full potential may or may not be effected by the 'cooldown effect'. Although I cannot remember the mathematical equation to solve the temperature to psi % increase/decrease, you can see from the above data that the hotter it gets, the quicker the propane pressure increases.

Just some info for you guys.. And the reason why I am even getting into this is because of the obvious safety concern with green gas bottles..and also that I am building a custom HPA rig..which is actually really cheap to do.

General Off-Topic Discussion / Maybe a solution to this..
« on: August 22, 2006, 10:56:43 PM »
Here are just a few things I would like to say about all this talk going on.

-There are not really cultures in airsoft..just some people tend to take it more seriously than others.

-There will always be "clicks" of airsoft friends, and ones from outside of airsoft, but that doesn't mean when someone says one word to another you have to feel the need to "have their back". We should all be able to hold our own.

-There aren't enough unofficial games for Phx area players lately..This is something we need to work on, alot of tension on the forums is resolved and put behind people when they meet and play together.

-There are alot of you "younger players" who think I am just a tough intimidating guy who thinks he is higher than you because I have player in a big op and get to play with AA and all the adults. Well let me tell you something I was just like you guys when I first got on here and started playing, and only by proving myself and becoming a more mature person and player..Did i get whereI am.
And I get to play with the adults because I show them respect at games, and don't like an asshat there. The forums don't mean all that much guys, after all it is only the internet.

I hope you guys can resolve your problems between yourselves and any you have with me.
I am only trying to instill some knowledge on how to not be an idiot like I,and most, of the new guys on here were.

General Off-Topic Discussion / Anyone ever contested a speeding ticket?
« on: August 11, 2006, 03:58:36 PM »
1.Have any of you ever contested a speeding ticket?
2. Is it "ok" for the police to speed when there is no emergency, on a call, or following someone?
