The story so far....
Throughout the year in 2003, US and British governments have conducted secret negotiations with the country of Libya. To avoid a fate similar to that of Iraq, the leader of Libya, Mummar al Qaddafi, stuns the world by announcing that his nation is discontinuing its weapons of mass destruction programs. Qaddafi further states that his country will grant US weapon inspectors access to his nation's research facilities.
The US administration waits until after the November Presidential Elections to deploy personnel into Libya. The first month of inspections passes without incident as the US coalition establishes a naval presence in the capital port city of Tripoli.
At the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan, coalition personnel begin coming under small scale terrorist attacks. US intelligence sources believe that remnants of the terrorist organization Abu Nidal have reemerged and are behind this wave of violence.
As tensions within the city escalate due to the terrorist attacks, Qaddafi comes under political criticism from some of his top military leaders for allowing the US to continue its operations in Libya. Militant religious leaders further undermine Qaddafi's efforts by claiming that his leadership is no longer protecting their religion from the evils of the west.
On October 8, 2005 violence erupts within the capitol as a bloody coup removes Qaddafi from power. Angry mobs riot in the streets of Tripoli and kill coalition personnel. Several weapon inspectors are captured by the Libyan military and are being held at the National Palace.
