Finally got it
« on: September 19, 2007, 08:32:08 PM »
UPDATE::

 I finally got the M1A. I decided on the standard, walnut stock. i thought it was prettier than the scout, which i originally wanted. :) I thought about the "loaded" but i didn't have enough cash and I don't need a chrome barrel and national match aperture, anyway.

It's love. She fires smooth but kicks like a .308 should, the shoulder's a bit sore after 70 rounds. :lol:  Very accurate. (at SGC's 75 foot range)

when i got it, i did the barrel "break in" where i fire a round and clean the barrel with oil and 2 passes of a bore snake. did this for 10 rounds and then fired 20 more. I went back this morning, got myself a 20rd magazine, and fired off the remaining 20 from box 1, and fired off another box as well.

Like i said, It's Love.

On most of the M14, M1A's that I have seen that have the straight up straight rail type mount -- brass CAN bounce off and back into the bolt.

Some of the higher end mounts have cuts to prevent this...some bolts are radiused to change the travel of the spent brass.

Congrats on the purchase! I have a loaded package M1A and LOVE IT!  If you find that the stock is a little thick thru the trigger hand grip area you might want to check out Fred's M14 Stocks on the net and get one of the genuine GI fiberglass stocks...I sent for one of the "like new" condition ones and was very pleased when I recieved it! It feels great to hold onto and not as thick... I also went with a Springfield scope mount and Leatherwood A.R.T. II scope but I haven't had a chance to sight in yet. Looks awesome though! Anyways, Congrats and have fun! Also, there are some excellent reference books out there too!  Steve. 8)

NIce one, i love things like M14's and M1A's  and even those sweet M1 Garands, congrats dude.

Does a .308 rifle round kick as much as a 12 guage shot gun shell?

Becuase i dont wanna get knocked on my ass again lol!
(
ill never shoot a slug shot agian lol, almost brook my colar bone shooting it {i was 12 at the time})

Anyways if it's too off topic, dont answer the question.  But if you want to answer it, please do, because my freind invited me to go shoot his socom 14 (which is a shortened version of the M1A/M14).
