Windage, elevation, mirage, cheek weld...yes, these affect iron sight shooters too. But seriously, w/ open sights you are limited to your vision. Try hitting a paper plate at say 200 yards w/ iron sights. Very tough to do. Compare that with hitting the same target at 400 yards with a 9x scope. Pretty close to the same comarison. Like anything...it takes a lot of practice. The scope just allows you to see further.
