Ya, it was a very fun game, I can't believe how wet the grass was. Although it did make for some pretty fun Knee Slides.  [smilie=armata_pdt_06.gif]

AEG's / Re: G & G Fn2000 and Ares tavor

I don't trust the tavor, mainly because of all the proprietary parts in the gearbox.

Ya, that is the major gripe I have with this thing. It doesn't use a standard gear box (version 2, etc), it is a custom gearbox and hop up system from what I understand (which isn't a whole lot). From what I've read though, the gears are all standard, the hop up bucking is standard, the only real custom internal part is the Piston (if that's the right name for what I'm thinking of).

I'm not sure how often Pistons go bad though, if that's even an issue? But I did find these 2 links that have some very good info on the TAR-21.

I just got the Tavor. Though I'm probably not the best one to give you any feedback on it, as it's my first AEG, and have only played in 1 game with it. (will be 2 tonight)

Although I have disassembled the entire thing (haven't taken apart the gearbox, but pulled the gearbox out).

I have modified it a bit;
Removed the dummy switch on the forward grip and put it a real one and wired it to a jack on the opposite side so I can plug my flashlight and laser into it.
Filed down the corners of the empty space behind the battery compartment so that the battery can slide in further and make room for the plugs.
Put a G&G Silencer on it. It is a 14mm Clockwise Thread.
Put some Dense Crafting Foam (not spray foam, the green stuff you buy in sheets) in the body in a few places to quiet things down a bit.
Drilled out the Iron Sight hole so its a bit bigger. (the hole in it from stock is the size of the smaller hole on AR-15/M4/M16 type Sights)

I plan on making a review of the gun when I'm finished with everything I want to do. I'm just about there, I might make one or 2 more changes still. But if you have any questions or would just like to take a look at it some time, let me know.

I don't have any cover to bring, but do you want anybody there before 8? If we are gonna set stuff up, that might take some time. I could be there as early as 6, but I think Matt is going to ride with me (I'll double check), and I'm not sure what time he can head down.

On a side note, that's amazing that the HOA is letting us play there, you must have extremely nice neighbors.

I'll be there with Matt (thegovernator)

I'd like to use Radios if everybody is up for it, haven't got to try out my headset/radio set up yet.  [smilie=armata_pdt_29.gif]

Accessories & Gear / Re: Helmet of choice
« on: January 01, 2011, 01:56:11 PM »
I'm using a PASGT Helmet with a woodland camo cover for it right now, and I love it.  Although if a BB hits it in the right spot it can be pretty loud. Fits my Headset and Goggles with no problems, and is comfortable, I don't even realize it's there till a BB hits it.

There was one case (granted I'm new to the sport) that I'm glad I had it, (any helmet, not necessarily PASGT) as it took several hits all in a short period where I got caught in the middle of a firefight between 4 people. That was alot of fun!

From what I've found though, there are a lot more helmet covers available for PASGT then MICH.  But maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places. (I didn't want to paint mine, and this way I can use same helmet for any camo setup)

Airsoft Items WANTED / Re: WTB someone who can solder...
« on: December 24, 2010, 11:03:32 PM »
Umm, arguing over soldering?  ](*,)

Anyways, if you want, I can help you do it, or show you how to do it. And if you'd like I can take you over to Harbor Freight and get you set up with everything you need to do it yourself for ~$30.

I still need to help "thegovernator" with this too, you could prob come over here at the same time if you want, cook two birds with one soldering iron?

I'm in N/E Mesa.
PM'd

Hey guys I noticed that when you get a PM the site doesn't send you an email notification any longer.

I just sent you a test PM, did you get a notification?

nope

Check and make sure its still set to email you, updating phpbb may have changed your preferences. You may have already checked this, I don't know, but thought I'd throw it in there just in case it was something simple.

User Control Panel -> Board preferences -> Edit global settings -> Notify me on new private messages -> Yes

Cheaper Than Dirt
(Real Steel Stuff)
http://www.cheaperthandirt.com

Great stuff and very low prices. All their Molle gear is Condor (whether that's good or bad is up to you), even though they call it "ModGear", and it's cheaper then other places I've found it at.

They ship out the same day, as long as you don't order too late. Shipping costs are cheap, and they are based out of Texas, so cheapest shipping still only takes 3-4 days (total, including ship date).

Had one problem with my Molle Radio Pouch, had a snap button on the strap that was stuck on, had to pry it off, and it just felt loose from there out. It would probably be fine, but I emailed them (on Christmas-eve mind you) and got a reply the same day, not 10 mins later, stating they will send me a new pouch at no cost. Haven't gotten the new pouch yet, seeing as how I'm writing the same day I emailed them, but the one I have will hold over fine till the new one gets here.

Good prices on Ammo too.

+1 for Batteries Plus
Not Airsoft related, but if you need a new battery for a Dirt Bike or Motorcyle, they will give you a permanently sealed gel cell battery for $25 instead of ~$80 at other places for a cheap lead-acid water filled battery.

Awesome, thanks for the tips guys. I'll definitely go check out gearbox when I get a chance.

Any recommendations on where to get some cheap gear to start out with? (camo, hydro packs, etc) You mentioned being able to pick up a Hydration pack for under $30, haven't been able to find a camo one under $50. Found a couple places for camo apparel at an average of $20, is that a pretty fair price?

Introduce Yourself! / Hi, hoping for some insight.

Hi,
I'm Dayton. I am new to airsoft, very new. I just bought my first gun, and am really looking to get into this sport, super excited.

Little background info; I'm 23, 6' 3" and 250lbs. I'm a Commercial HVAC Technician, have been for 5 years now. I love riding dirt bikes, (not competitively, just trails and practice days at the track). I've never played any airsoft games before, and you'll probably think I'm crazy for buying a expensive AEG to start off with, but I really like the TAR-21. :)

Anyways, could anybody help me out here? I'm trying to figure out what kind of gear I need to get started?  Vests, what color of camo, how many mags (hi, mid, or low cap?), how many batteries I can expect to go through in a day of playing, etc. Do I need a radio? (what type would you recommend?) Is a pistol necessary or just good to have on hand for CQB?

Is there any (mature) person or team here that would be willing to show me the ropes during a game or two? I really know nothing about this sport other than "Shoot them and try not to get shot in the process." :D  I'm great at following directions, and am a good leader when needed. I would most likely be available on Friday afternoons, Saturdays anytime, or Sundays as long as it's not too late, (work starts early for me).

Really hoping to get into this, thanks for any replies.
