Airsoft SAPI plates
« on: February 24, 2005, 05:55:12 PM »
Ok...this isn't a "for sure", but I am working on a deal to score some of the fake SAPI plates from Japan, in fact, these would be just like these on this page:

http://www.ukasc.net/content.php?review.15

I don't have a final price, since part of it depends on how many I order and what shipping ends up being.  But we're looking at around $65-$70 each, direct from Japan.

I need to know a count so I can make some more determinations are to if this is feasible.  These are sold in pairs only, so if we come up with an odd number, someone may get bumped or someone needs to find someone who wants one. :)

So...who's in?

Is that going to be $65-70 for ONE plate that we need to buy in pairs?  Meaning that I would need to dish out $130-140 for a set?  I just wanted to clarify.

Christian, did ya'll ever have to wear those damn sapi plates in basic? IF ya did I'm surprised you'd say Airsoft was a chance to wear them and have "fun" with them.

After wearing the real deal for a year I can say there is nothing fun about them, not counting the wieght (you get used to it) they restrict circulation, hinder mobility, and heven be damned if you really have to lay in the prone and avoid fire!

But if'n ya'll want to have fun, by all means go for it, I'd most Deff recomend the Under Armuor Heat Gear shirts with them armor and plates.

That's the word I am getting.  Azsarge indicates that there's a company selling them for a lot less. I don't know the quality or anything, but I'll run this info by my source and see what he says.  I don't know much about these things, just that my source (an Japanese guy who lives in the UK and runs an airsoft store/business) told me they are high quality.

I'll let you know.

Let's just say my PM was NOT to tell Tim I wanted a set.  So that makes it 2.

Kevin, I never wore them in basic (we wore old PASGT armor), but I wore them at school and at my unit.  I agree that they are heavy and they suck.  I don't want them for fun, I want them to put in my fake body armor.  I will only wear airsoft replica armor to play in if it's lighter than the real thing. 8)

Quality be damned, we're talking about a piece of plastic here, Tim!  Plastic is plastic.  If they were REAL plates, and my life depended on it, I'll spare no expense, but for something to keep my rig stiff (heh) I don't really care.

If it were me, I'd buy a set of each (yours for 130-140 per set, and mine for 16.50 per set before shipping of course), throw them in a Wasatch, and hit the trails!  If they both look decent, are hard enough, and can withstand a belly-flop onto a boulder (ok, maybe not), then I'd most definitely go with the Toy Soldier version that costs 1/10th of the ones you pointed out.

After all, I'm not trying to fool anyone, so everyone would know they're fake.  I just need something to replace those goddamn foamies that come with replica armor vests, and I don't feel like taking the heat from Uncle Sam if I lose a SAPI plate at BT.

But wait a second, this thread looks alot like:

These look ok to me...

I will readily admit to not being savvy to all that goes on in the Airsoft world and if I can arrange a better buy from a different source, I will.  Thanks for the link, I'll check out that thread and see

I got interested in these as a way to have replica plates for gear design, so I don't have to use real plates. My ceramic plate manufacturer advised there were replicas on eBay for about $50.00 (but from overseas), so I did a search and found nothing.

I was in IM with my Japanese friend who is back home visiting in tokyo, but who runs an airsoft shop in the UK.  I was asking about the plates he carries, and he mentioned they were from Japan.

My guess is he's making a few bucks on teh price to me, which is fine.  Factoring on a small margin for me, I cam up with the $65 price, which didn't seem out of line considering what I'd been told by my real plate mfg.

I'll let you guys know what I find out.

Tim
