Title: Version 6 Gearbox
Post by: Cochise116 on April 26, 2005, 09:38:43 PM
I was thinking about getting a Thompson and was wondering about the Version 6 gearbox.  After a while of searching, and wonding what I got myself into. I decided to ask the questions to the Gearheads here at AA.(yes I know some of this is in the Thompson AEG thread). So please no flames.

Is there upgrade part around?

Can it be upgraded to around 380-400 and still be relieable in the field?

Does JungleToy carry these parts?

Could I get a different version gearbox like a 2 or 3?

Also anyone here a true expert through and through on V.6? If so could you PM.

Yes there are parts available, though you may have to look for it in online stores under 'P90' since they use the same gearbox.

It is upgradable to the FPS you want without issue.

As far as what JT carries, I don't know.

Each AEG is designed around a particular gearbox version, they are not interchangeable between versions.

In principle, gearboxes are the same, some just tighter than others due to their layout.

Try to get in contact with this guy known as "Spaz" who play with Airsoft Addicts.  He owns a p90 and has done a lot of stuff to that gearbox over the years. He can probably help you in your upgrade efforts.

There is an upgrade kit specific for the Thompson version 6 gear box.  Just do a search on War Game club's site for "thompson" and you should find it easy enough.  There is no Silent Piston head set for it since the style of cylinder head doesn't allow for one.  Here is a Systema set at WGC:  Systema Cylinder Sets - Cylinder Sets
 SYS-ZS-03-44
Systema Cylinder Set for Thompson  In Stock  US$53.60

No you can't swap out a version 2 or 3 gear box without a LOT of work and then why would you want to?  You still need to use the specific style cylinder head in order for it to line up with the barrel.  The version 6 is a good gear box and is really just a modified version 3 anyways.  The minor differences are in how the selector switches and such interact with it.
