POS M4
« on: March 27, 2005, 02:13:22 PM »
Well as a few of you may know, my M4 has decided to be a POS lately. The problems I am having are the following:

-Gears aren't shimmed correctly
-Motor connector tabs broke
-Gearbox wires are shredded in places
-Wires, battery, motor, and selector switch plate get VERY hot after just a few rounds being fired
-Safety doesn't work
-Tightbore wobbles from side to side and back and forth a little in the hop.

I am ready to throw my gun in the trash no joke, I can't find any wire sets for the whole gearbox online, and When i found just the wire going from the BATTERY to the GEARBOX it was like 30 bucks(ok that costs about a dollar to make)from HK. Any help is much appreciated, otherwise its getting sold or going in the can.

Four steps to a better AEG:

1.  Chillax
2.  Find out everything thats wrong, and acquire new parts.
3.  a)Install new parts, or
     b) Find someone to help you
4.  Enjoy the new, improved Gat!

I had a POS M4, now it's the nicest AEG in AA as far as I'm concerned.  Nothing wrong, ever, solid as a rock, and very reliable.  I coud be wrong, but I'm going to guess that alot of the damage to your AEG was caused by shoddy maintenance.  When something breaks, you want it replaced and you get excited and rush the job.  Relax, take your time, and do the job the right way, with the right tools.

I saw the way you and Anthony were fixing your guns the other night, and by the looks of it, I will never ask either of you to fix my sh*t! :P

What kind of M4 is it exactly? Seems to me, even if you are going to trash the gun, it would probably be lees expensive to replace the gearbox or whatever outright, than to replace a whole gun. I am just speculating.

Its basicly brand new parts inside that gearbox, and now with the addition of a new switch assembly, every little piece is either new, or a few months old. Including a brand new progear steel gearbox.

And the way Anthony was beating my gearbox pissed me off, He thinks beating it with a screwdriver will fix any problem. Maybe if someone hit him with a screwdriver he would be "fixed". Ha

What I want to know is what you did to it to have such problems?

If it was my gun I would probably just start from scratch and buy a brand new gearbox to put in it.

Kurn, read my post again, the gearbox IS new..and so is everything in it except for the wiring and trigger its self. Once I get the low resistance wiring and maybe a new selector switch plate there should be nothing wrong.

So you did nothing to it?  Out of the box it has all of those problems?  I would return it if that is the case.

No, Ive had it for a little over a year, but everytime the gun gets opened to get upgrades or maintenance, i just find myself faced with needing more upgrades or parts.

Happened to my guns too.. doesn't happen anymore, cause I dont let anyone open them. They're fine how they are! Both shoot 330 with .25, decently accurate, and thats all that's needed.. the rest is skill. But.. I don't have the money for that yet ;)

So you did do something to it to have all of these problems.

How is replacing the wiring and the selector switch plate going to fix the  gear shims and keep the barrel from wobbling?

Also, I think you might have misunderstood me, when I said I would replace the entire gearbox I meant with something like this:

Well Someone else offered to do the work for me of shimming it, and the barrel problem can be fixed with a metal insert. I'm just pissed that it has always had problems everytime it gets upgraded, the whole point of upgrading it was to make it better. Hopefully she will be spitting out BB's like no other again pretty soon.

As per our phone converstation Andy, when you get your new parts you can drop the gun off with me for a couple days and I'll get it straightened out.  You need to be patient though, since when installing new parts and especially a new after market gear box there is always going to be some kind of issue.  Expecting things to work perfectly the first time when swapping out parts is not going to help your stress level.
