Which gun do you have?  Did you check the connections to the motor inside the pistol grip, sounds like a bad connection either there, or a blown fuse.  Model of gun will help a lot here.

Like Harley said, definetely (sp?) check the motor connections. That's what it was on my P90, and I took the gearbox apart (foolishly), and lost a couple of parts, which are supposed to be on their way from The Q Project, but they aren't... Anyways, point is, don't open your gearbox until you are absolutely sure it's not something else, like check the contact of the selector plates, and check the fuse, check to make sure the motor isn't fried, etc. Be like me (drug and) gearbox foolishness free.

I assume you have a m-16 variant if you are taking out body pins.  Yes, it does resist a little.  You should take out the back body pin first, then push upward on the place where the plunger assembly enters the body while pulling down on the lower receiver.  This should come apart with some resistance but not a lot, and leave you with the front section hinged to the lower receiver where the front body pin connects.  You then remove the front body pin which should allow the two pieces to slide apart fairly easily.  To get to the machbox after this, you need to remove the stock, take the engine out of the grip, disconnect the lower receiver from the mechbox (two screws inside the grip underneath the motor, and it should slide out.  However, I would check the fuse first because, like Harley said, it does sound more like a fuse or motor problem.

did you hear any poping or strange noise before the gun stoped working.  That could be a sure sign if it IS a gearbox prob.  For me, my last tooth on the piston broke off and I ended up with the same type of simptoms.

it's an M4, sorry for not stating earlier... i'll try looking at the conections tonight.... BTW, how much is a little resistance and how much is a lot?

Well, it's kind of hard to explain, but you should feel enough resistance that it doesn't just come apart once the pin is out.  The pieces are fitted so that the upper reciever sort of "snaps" (for lack of a better word) into the lower reciever.  I wouldn't worry about breaking anything since I can't think of anything that would be caught.

When I had to do it to my SR16, I found a good way to do it: You lay the gun across your lap with the barrel facing to the right, then you put four of the fingers on your left hand (not your thumb) on the stock, you use the thumb on your left hand (and your right hand if needed)to push up on that piece with the wierd button on the upper reciever that gets pushed in and out (ejection button???), and just push up on it. It will come right apart.

well the fuse looks good to me, I'm having trouble with the motor, is it supposed to come out of the hand grip from the bottom or do i take the mecbox out first? Also, I can't figure out how to get the Mechbox out<img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>

The motor comes out the bottom of the pistol grip.  It may be in there a little snug.  Try to grab it with a pair of pliers and gently pull it out.  You can't get the mech box out until you remove the motor, then the pistol grip which is held on by two screws, then the pin just above the trigger, and the magazine catch as well.  Read my review on my M16 commando and that might help you out a bit.

sounds like a burnt out fuse to me but if you want to open check the gearbox...


to get the gearbox out of a m4/sr16/m16a2:


1) use the break open feature and seperate the top and bottome halves competely. if its your first time using the  break open feature it will have some resistence, when i first tried it i though i would break the gun too.

2) take the stock off. first take off the sliding part by retracing it all the way out, then remove the small screw located in the back of the buffer tube, its on the bottom side. this will allow you to remove the rear cap of the buffer tube and inside the tube will be the last screw that holds the stock on.

3) remove the motor grip plate. there are two screws on the botom of the pistol grip, take those off but dont touch the small grub screw in the middle. when you take the motor plate off be careful not to lose the washer thats inside. note the wiring placement, unplug motor and remove it.

4) look inside the grip, you will see two screws, take them out.

5) remove mag release assembly. theres only one screw here so its easy, its a small allen type screw located on the face of the mag release button.

6) take out the small pin on the lower body, its right next to the fire selector. use a small pin or needle to pus it out, it will come out easily.

7) remove the feed tube that is right under to the air nozzle. theres two screws here, lift it out gently.

8) put the fire selector in halfway between safe and semi, and pull the gearbox out from the top.

How do i go about trouble shooting the thing once it's apart? i've established it's either the trigger or the motor... or the connection from the battery through to the triger...

I would connect the battery to the gearbox and the gearbox to the motor (without putting the motor inside the gearbox), then pull the trigger and if the motor turns, you can rule out the battery, the trigger, and the motor all at once.  If it turns then it has to be something inside the gearbox that's jammed or broken.  If it doesn't turn then you can assume it's in the electrical not the mechanical.  THen you would have to somehow test the motor and the battery.  I'm not sure how you'd do that though.  If both of those are fine then it has to be either the trigger or the wiring between the motor and the battery.  However, the trigger is the least suspect part.  I have never heard of a trigger failing to complete the circuit.  In fact, the trigger is probably the most reliable part on the gun.  Also, you might try bypassing the inline fuse to see if that does anything.  Without seeing it though, I'm grasping at air.  Good luck and I hope I helped.

Major emergency here! okay... well it's just the first time my gun hasn't worked. Sorry, it's not really that big I guess. <img src=icon_smile_blush.gif border=0 align=middle>
Well, here's my highly tecnical analysis: I pull trigger, gun doesn't make a sound and no action. Yes, the batery is charged and properly conected and safety is off.
I tried to take it apart, but after removing all the pins the top part that's supposed to separate from the bottom resisted an I didn't want to force it for fear of damaging the gun further. This being my first gun, I don't know if it's supposed to resist or not when i try to open it.
Well, any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks Everyone!
