Dust cover suggestions...
« on: December 03, 2005, 09:46:03 AM »
Apparently I lost my little tin plate that goes inside of the receiver on my M4. It happened when I was moving, I had my M4 in pieces to work on it, and when I went to re-assemble I could not find the tin piece. I suppose it got lost in the move. Now the dust cover won't close. Two-part question:

1) Is it safe like that?

2) How in the heck do I get a replacement?

Also does anyone know if the Hurricane Knights metal receiver comes with the little tin piece? I was looking at upgrading my metal body to one of those (for aesthetics only), that might just tip the scales in that favor.

Thanks for any and all help, suggestions, and replies!

My understanding of the HurricanE metal bodies is that the metal hop up unit that comes with it, that replaces the plastic feed tube, would interfere with the dust cover. Further, my feeling about the dust cover is that it is primarily for aesthetics, because G&P guns don't have them.

Greg has done soemthing to his AEG to solve this kind of problem.  It is very simple too.  All he did was reverse the spring that opens the dust cover so that it closes the dust cover. Just tap out that little pin that holds the cover on and reverse the spring and tap it back on.

Hmm. I didn't know anyone noticed that I did that. I did do that on my CA M16, although you might have actually been told that by someone else... unless this was a really long time ago and I forgot...

It was a long time ago and you showed me yourself. I think it was at Lone Mountain.  8)

Ok.. Cool. I think that its a good thing to do on AR AEGs which dont have a moving fake bolt carrier to act as a dust cover.

I had a Hurricane body on my M4.  The dust cover/bolt carrier plate functions the same way as the Marui unit.

The piece you are referring to is the fake Bolt Carrier.  It is a cosmetic cover for the mechbox and cylinder and is not required for safe use.  I've seen several AEGs without them installed.

Flipped the spring around, wound it up well, and my dust cover now defaults to closed :)

Thanks Greg (for thinking of it) and -MAD- Sarge (for bringing it up)!
