piston lock up?
« on: March 17, 2006, 11:22:18 PM »
so, originally, i thought my gears in my g36 were locking up because the motor would click and stuggle to turn the gears. so i kept opening it up and resetting them. every time, after 1 or 2 shots (both semi and full), it would again lock up. maybe a shimming problem?

then, i found that the air nozzle wouldnt be able to be pushed back and forth after the lock up. and i noticed that every time i opened it back up, the piston and spring would make a 'twang' sound when i would gently lift the top half of the gearbox off. so, anyone have any idea what is going on?

That usually happens to me when my battery is low or dosent have enough voltage to drive the system. To check the shimms, assemble the gear arragnement without the tappet plate, piston and spring in it and spin the whole thing to see if there is enough movement in the gears when the whole thing is assembled.

yea i had my fully charged large 9.6v hooked up to it, and i did what you said with regards to checking the shims. it still does the exact same thing. it was strange cuz i took it to jeremiah and i guess we 'fixed' it there. then i come home and it starts acting up again. terrible.

It's a CA, right? It sounds like the same thing that happened to my G36C.  Took it to JT, thought it was fixed, took it home, and it stopped working again.  Took it to SAD, paid a most likely outrageous sum of money to have it fixed in around a week-ish (don't know exactly how much, I bought a bunch of other stuff too), haven't had any trouble with it since.  For some unknown reason, I didn't bother to ask what was actually wrong with it, but it worked, so I didn't really care at the time.

I guess what I'm saying is, if you're willing to pay the price, they can apperently fix it at SAD, other than that, I'm no help. ;)

Does it still make the clicking sound WITHOUT the battery in it, when pulling the trigger.

no it only makes the click/struggle noise when theres a battery. every time i open it back up, the selector gear seems to be out of place, hence why i thought the piston was acting up. and it seems the spring is compressed more than it should be when i open it up due to the 'twang' sound i get when i gently lift up the top half of the gearbox.

what would the spring on the tappet plate catch onto?

also, the reason the sector gear is messed up when u open it is because the spring is compressed when the piston locks up and it pushes the sector gear out of place and slams into the cylinder. Watch out it could mess other things up, u should try releasing the anti reversal latch before opening it up to decompress the spring.
