DSG issues
« on: March 31, 2012, 03:20:16 PM »
Having some problems with my current build..
First, what im running:

-Echo 1 Platinum m4 as the base gun (VFC, for those who havent a clue…)
-Stock parts: shell, bushings, trigger contacts/assembly, 16awg wires, air nozzle, alu piston head (heated&streched #14 O-ring), cut-off lever(shaved down), ARL, and the little springs.
-SHS modded tappet (11mm)
-SHS 15 piston (corrected AoE)
-Riot DSG (8 tooth version)
-Riot spacers (only using 6 of the 8..)
-Riot M110 eqv. spring
-JG GE 18:1 bevel and spur
-JG Blue motor
-Random aluminum cylinder head
-Cylinder w/ 2 windows

Issues:
1) semi auto doesnt work. Still shoots auto when placed on semi (not really a big concern)
2) BB is shot (projected) ONLY on every other shot, as if it takes 1 full revolution of the sector gear to fire 1 bb, instead of .5 of a revolution like the DSG should.

Any help would be appreciated *coughslinkyorspazzcough* thanks

Sounds like tappet plate issues.

It does indeed. Should I take more off the tappet? It's already at 11mm. It looks like its returning before the piston already, but then again, you can't see inside the gearbox when it's closed..

Something else you can try/do is take a coil or two off of the tappet spring. This will make it stiffer and the tappet plate will move faster. Beware, you can possibly break the tappet spring or plate depending how "used" the parts are. DSG builds are lots of trial and error. If you get it 100% right on the first shot, then you are either lucky or damn good.

I might  try that when I get the chance. All the parts are new/like new so it shouldn't be too weak unless it's just a melon. But yeah, trial and error.. 4 hours to get the shimming right.. Found the JG gears fit better than the previous ones. So much more time consuming compared to regular builds...

Yeah, they are not for the weak at heart, or easily discouraged. I felt pretty fortunate with mine and it wasn't til the 3rd test fire that it finally spit out a bb. Then it was only shooting 230 fps, but that ended up being a old dried up hop-up bucking. Just keep at it and it will come together.

LOL. I was wondering where he got the melon thing from too, but I wasn't going to say anything.

lemon… melon.. same dif.

Anyways, I fixed the misfeeding issue. I put in a KA tappet, but i think the issue was the piston/gears engagement. By thickening the cylinder head pad with 70D sorbo, instead of what was on there before (some rubber-like material), the AoE sat exactly at 12-o-clock, whereas before it was at roughly 1. This should've allowed the tappet more time to release and reset. Make sense?.. Doesnt matter, its working now.
But semi still refuses to work.. Oh well, i really dont see any sense in using semi in a dsg build. My only concern now is accuracy. Groupings are terrible… Could just be because its windy, and im testing with .20's..

I would guess lower 40's. I'm using 18:1s, JG blue, and a smaller 11.1v lipo.. I wanted high speed ratio gears, and a Merlin motor but that's a bit excessive and another $100
