dead wires?
« on: April 08, 2010, 11:24:10 PM »
well, i was installing a tightbore on one of my g3's, and had some feeding issues once i reassembled it.. the rifle fired, but the hopup and the plate that the top of the mag clips into wasn't aligned correctly, easy to fix. the rifle did fire at this point.

i stripped it down again, fixed the feeding issue, and reassemble the rifle.  the new problem, once assembled again, is that the rifle wouldn't fire (i was careful not to pinch the wiring, but i most likely did.).  so i once again disassembled it to try and troubleshoot it.

so i get the rifle apart, have it spread out on my desk, and im testing out the wiring. i plug the battery into both the front and rear wiring circuits, squeeze the trigger while holding the motor in one hand, nothing. i try another battery, still nothing. so i try moving my hand around a bit (with bat 1, and bat 2 separately), moving the wires on the table into a somewhat different position, and try again. the motor spins up. i move the wires again, nothing. i repeated this process with the same results, and a couple times it would have a good second or two delay before it kicked in.

this is a version 2 gearbox (in case you didnt know), im thinking something got screwed up as far as the wiring goes, but im holding off on busting the gearbox open at this point. what do you guys think? im debating trial and error with another v2 gearbox, and another motor independently to see if the motor is where the problem lies. either way, the rifle wasnt very expensive so if its the wiring, i can just grab a replacement kit for $15 or so and call it good since this rifle is mostly used by guests or my brother. however if its the motor, ill just buy something new and use the rest as parts later on.

You've got a broken wire somewhere.
I say just replace the wiring. Motors that are worn out don't suddenly stop spinning up randomly. Check all the solder points on the wiring, then look for any wire that has been bent or pinched a lot. Those are your most likely broken parts.

Ver 2 gets cracks in the wiring around the place where the motor enters the gearbox after a while (where it has to crimp around the screw holes and such).

If you have other gearboxes to do trial and error with the motor, do it. Can't hurt to check.
