I had the good fortune of using one of the M249s over here. After using the SAW, and being a former owner of the M60, I am happy to say that I can give a good comparison between the two.
The M249 is heavier, has more metal, and is the latest offering from TOP. However, despite the motorized R2500 box mag I was able to use, I prefer the simpler loading of the M60 series. The extra 1300 rounds the M249 can carry is nice, but if you are lugging around a heavy gun for a long scenario, the lighter weight of the M60 will be appreciated.
Performance did not vary, considering that neither gun was upgraded. It really comes down to personal choice and the size of your bank account.
