Title: So something interesting happened tonight
Post by: Pick on July 01, 2010, 09:53:42 PM
So i was sitting in the car waiting at the drive through and i hear a popping and cracking noise so i look over at my phone which was sitting on the the passenger's seat and the entire screen shattered. I am guessing the heat but i have never seen or heard anything like the such happening.

Its less than a month old and now i'm depressed cause i'm out 200$ and my insurance wants a 130$ deductible for a new one

call the manufacturer... or email I suppose?
That bites. IIRC you have the HD2, right? You can get a new screen+digitizer for $50 off ebay.

Heat + Electronics = Bad.  How long had it been sitting in the seat?  Was it in direct sunlight?

That is unsatisfactory, both of the phone, and the insurance policy.

I would upgrade both.

ouch...

I woke up the other morning, went for my phone and realized I left it in my car.. I got it out of the car and to my suprise the battery hadn't drained, despite the phone being ..extremely hot..

I dis-assembled the phone, placed it and its lithium ion polymer battery somewhere cool for a while..and I'm back in business

quite a scare initially..!

If you still had a cliq it was time for an upgrade anyways.

But that really sucks. You might be able to find a new screen for it our get it repaired cheaper than that. I've never heard of spontaneous screen breaks though. That's weird. I would recommend checking with motorola about the issue, they might be willing to help resolve the issue if your phone is fairly new. This sounds like a manufacturer defect.

I can't think of a logical reason for this to happen.  What was the screen made out of?

There have actually been several cases of phones (from quite a few manufacturers) with improperly tempered glass. Basically... when the phone heats up the screen from the back... especially when it's cold outside (or your phone is under the AC vents), the glass heats unevenly and BAMMO it shatters when it tries to bend.

That's an ebay link to a cliq with a working screen but fried otherwise. cheaper than your deductible if you're feeling handy.
