Shemagh tying
« on: April 06, 2010, 08:16:40 AM »
Hey, so I ordered a shemagh recently, and I was wondering if someone could tell me how to tie it.  I dont want to do a whole head wrap, just cover my neck and mouth.  Ive heard that they can fog my goggles up if its tied wrong, so Id like some help.  Thanks!

Check this video out. Not only is it hilarious but it is informational. He'll show you how to tie it the correct way and it looks sweet.

If you just want to cover your nose and mouth, use this method.

Then, once it's done, pull the part that goes over the top of your head backwards and down. Voila, nose/mouth covered, and your neck is protected from the sun too.

To get the special forces look, go ahead and pull it all down around your neck from this configuration and twist a bit to the side. That's the way it will keep the sun off your neck and shoulders and wick your sweat (keeps you nice and cool).

So you mean pull the part thats over your head down to your neck, kinda like a scarf?

How I did it;

Fold in into a triangle
Lay the hypotenuse 3/4 on the top of your head with 3/4th on one side and the remainder on the other. You'll have the figure out the exact numbers according to your own head shape.
Hold the small side still
Take the long side and cover your face. Continue to the back to the wanted tightness.
Take the small side and go up over the long side and tie it

Your goggles will fog regardless of how you tie it in a full face. You are blocking the vents so the air flow in obstructed. Worse yet you're breath is being transferred up into the bottom of the goggle making it worse.

The other methods will work, but imagine how your head actually is built. There isn't much for it to latch onto other than a goggle tie. Doing this may cause it to fall at time when you move quickly. I think the main actor from 28 Weeks later uses a Neck gator, which it seems you may be trying to emulate. Which has the elastic band to keep it tight.

As he stated a few times, he does not want to cover his head.

This is not brain surgery.
