Need some tips on gun attachments.
« on: April 20, 2010, 10:44:06 PM »
Ok guys, I bought a Echo 1 Stag - M4 Carbine. I'm trying to get into the military simulations at the MTT (Marauders Tactical Training) and I would love to have some suggestions on what to put on my gun. I also want to know what you think on me getting a Bypod and a 3x9x40 Scope (is the 3x9x40 scope the best? Should I use a smaller magnification or a red dot?). IF ya know any reliable Bypods or 3x9x40 scopes that are reliable I would love to know.

A. Check your spelling... I don't even want to try to go through and correct it for you. Looking back, you didn't do too terrible, but it's bipod, not "bypod".
B. Check your scope specs. 3-9x40 I believe is what you meant. and they're the best as spotting+aiming scopes for long-range airsoft play
C. Red dot at the most for your gun. Airsoft guns don't realistically use more than a 2x for aiming. Ever. Beyond that is primarily used for spotting... which you don't need a scope for at MTT if that's the only place you're planning to play.
D. Bipods aren't that useful for high-speed games like what is seen at MTT. They're really only useful if you're playing a support position (SAW gunner pinning a squad for 5-10 mins at a time) or a sniping position (watching movement from afar, use to stabilize the scope). Neither of which you can do with a stock E1 M4.

Honestly, if you want to get the most out of your gun in the situation you mentioned... a reflex sight and a foregrip are probably going to be your most useful attachments.

I agree with this however i also use a E1 Stag 15 but mine has been modified for a sniper role. I'm just broke at the moment so i don't have a bipod for it. but when it comes to a red dot system yeah its a little bit of a magnification but it will work at MTT as well as most other places. so its really down to what you want to do, but a good fore grip will help a lot

Halefire here is a problem with your post, gear varies from person to person. I think that you are going to be fine with a stock E1 externally, and I would worry more about internals. The fact is that airsoft is too close quarters for scopes to be of any use except for looks. (exception being night games) Foregrips are useless in my eyes because I hold my weapon at the magwell. It really all depends on what works for YOU.

That being said, I think that depending on your stock you may want to get a new one. I know a full stock isn't condusive to CQB. I would still focus more on your internals, you will be overall happier with how your gun shoots.

I used to play with a scope on an M4. A 3-9 x 30. I did pretty well only because i aimed with both eyes open allowing faster target acquisition (That how you spell it? Axis will pick up on it. lol.). I used the scope on its lowest setting, 3x magnification in normal situations then used higher magnification when spotting. So it can be done... with training. You HAVE to be able to shoot with both eyes open at all times. If you don't learn this skill then you will constantly have tunnel vision which leads to death.

For some one new to airsoft (and im assuming tactical situations all together) id suggest a red dot sight, specially at MTT.

If you want practicality, nothing.  I would, instead, save my money for other stuff such as upgrades.  Attachments are nice if you want aesthetics, but your guns' irons work just as well for your effective range as any reflex sight.  (again, this is my own opinion)

If you want aesthetics though, you could get an Eotech replica.  They're a bit pricy but hey look gorgeous.  You could also stick a laser pointer on it if you want for hip shooting at close ranges.  I have a foregrip, but as steyraug said, not everyone likes them.

Thomas is just a n00b  and I just prefer not to mention him when it comes to scopes, since he is after all Mr. Nightvision.

when it comes to putting a scope on your M4, it is more so a matter of comfort, and as TheBoy said, shooting with both eyes open. especially in cqb situations, a scope or even red dot sight, is only a useful tool to those who have nearly mastered the art of using these items while being on the look out with their other eye. i'd personally just recommend using your iron sights as opposed to any scopes or optional sights as the iron sights wont limit your vision if you use just one eye.

thats my $0.02 anyways lol

I use an Aimpoint replica. I find that I can get quick target acquisition and it is pretty accurate. I also have a 3X multiplier that I can add in front of it for longer range shots or I want to make sure of what I am shooting.  It will also come off to use as a spotting scope. Anything above 3X MAYBE 4X is a waist. IMHO

Its pretty simple, when your looking down a red dot, open both eyes. you dont have to be right up on the red dot in order to use it like you do a scope so you can keep your eyes back farther and still be able to focus with both eyes while still seeing the dot.

Yes. learn. It will change your life.
Airsoft will be 10x less fatiguing. lol.
It's quite similar to the difference a Camelbak makes. It doesn't seem necessary until you've tried it and become somewhat accustomed to it. Then, you can NEVER go back.

He is correct. Optics that have no magnification have unlimited eye relief. In other words the sight can be all the way forward on your rail and work just as well right next to your eye.
