Title: Reassembling gearboxes
Post by: headhunter on December 26, 2013, 04:24:52 PM
Hello again,
I've been trying to close the gearbox I've been working on after getting my last couple parts today. I get everything together and when the spring is compressed it is insanely hard to close the gearbox. I know it's normally hard but nothing will stay put in the gearbox so I can't get it closed. Either the spring flies out the back or the gears fly out of the bearings despite trying to hold everything together it's just too hard to do while putting the top on. I don't have the money to have a tech do it and want to do it myself. If somebody knows why this is please help me figure out how to get the top on. Me and my dad tried to do it and that did not work either. Just so everyone knows, it's a version 3 GB for a g36.

Spring is always last, other than that welcome to teching.

^^lol what he said.
A tip tho....
When I did mine for the first time I made sure to keep preasure on the cylinder while closeing it. So while using an allen to set the spring guide in. One the tab is in the frame slide your hand (right for me) to hold down the cylinder through the top of the frame. From there its just making sure your shims and anti reversal spring/arm is set up. I use a small allen to pull the anti reversal into place. Best of luck!

I know your pain! That is a tricky process. The worst part for me was that damn trigger assembly wouldn't stay.

But a trick is to hold together the front part of your gear box first, then when that's tight slowly work the other parts together, it helps taking breaks, because as you know its very frustrating, and rushing anything in the gearbox will only make things worse. Make sure everything is in the right place; facing the right way before you try to put the second half on.

Is it a jg btw?

I got it back together and realized that it was that I just needed to take a break after spending forever shimming my gears and adjusting the AoE. I think most people should know that they should take a break, even 5 minutes would help, before putting the spring in. It really helps relax and brings your frustration down before the most stressful part. Also, it is a JG but everything but the cylinder, gears, and motor have been replaced since it only has a couple thousand rounds and the motor isn't that bad, it can pull my M120 without a problem going about 15rps with mostly SHS/Matrix parts.

Nice! I had the same problem with my jg, had to replace everything because I put in a 450mm tightbore, lonex motor and everything. But glad to see you got it back together!

I like JG's except the anti reversal latch springs are strong little suckers, very annoying my first few times.
