Review: Star SCAR-L with EGLM
http://www.starairsoft.com/product_deta ... ductid=337

Ok this guns is awesome and I'm glad i bought it. The construction is very solid. At 12 pounds the gun is hefty and after several hours of play it will make you tired unless your not used to it.

Performance:
This gun performs extremely well for being completely stock. With a stock FPS of 380 with .20g BBs the only thing one would want to upgrade would be a tightbore inner barrel. The hop-up is also exellent. It takes less than a quarter turn to get .25s to fly straight. After the hop-up is set it does not move. The hop-up assembly is built into the gear box. The hop-up bucking is kept connected to the inner barrel in the outer barrel assembly. The whole thing than goes straight into the hop-up moving parts on the gearbox. Breaking down the gun is very simple and as on Stars website can be done in 30 seconds. Putting the gun back together is also simple and quick.

The gun taken apart:

Gearbox and Hop-up assembly:

Upper receiver:

The stock-
The battery fits tightly into the stock with easay access by just removing a pin. I did run into a problem with my battery, due to the maker of the battery having plasitc caps the battery was to thick to fit in the stock. This is because the assembly to adjust the stock runs down the whole inside of the stock. The stock when folded does not have any exposed wires like with the CA SCAR-L, Also the stock does not affect the space around the trigger like the CA SCAR-L. Although the stock should be able to be adjusted to 6 different positions mine only works in 4 not a huge problem but some might not like that. The stock makes the battery connection to the upper reciver using Deans Ultra Connectors.

The stock and connector:

Stock folded showing no wires:

Inside stock:

Star SCAR-L vs. CA SCAR-L :
The two SCARs are fairly close but some small aspects are better on the Star. The take down is one plus along with the trades and stock. Bad news for CA SCAR-L owners hoping to just buy the EGLM... the Star EGLM does not fit on the CA SCAR-L. The bottom rail on the CA SCAR-L  is about 3/8" to long to allow the magwell to line up with the
launcher.

Side by sides:

The launcher on the CA:

The EGLM:
The EGLM is exellent. The operation is very smooth. The grip is spring loaded and when the release is used. The grip than moves to the front of the tube which rotates the tube unlocking the tube from the back plate. The whole thing than slides forward and cants to the left or right depending on the user. The grenades just rest in the tube and are not held in the tube like on the G&P series M203s. The launcher attaches via QD, there are two levers on the right side. The GL just goes straight onto the bottom rail. Take down of the launcher is simple there is a clip at the front when pushed to the side allows you to pull the lower assembly off the upper assembly. A nice plus of this launcher is the firing pin
moves far enough to reset the valve on 40mm shells. There is a small spring loaded peice in the back plate that forces the shells to rotate down and out of the launcher.

Canted:

QD:

Lower Assembly:

Overall rating 10/10

Thanks Beanns, I will post it up in a bit.

I don't have the VFC EGLM, as it hasn't been released, but I have a sneaking suspicion that they won't match up (either the STAR on the VFC or the VFC on the STAR) because it is not just a rail mounted GL.  The magazine wells have to match up too, but if I catch you at a game somewhere, I would def love to check if the STAR EGLM fits on my VFC).

Also, I have no experience with nerf rounds (nor how they work) since where I came from no one was using them by the time I moved.  I was told by someone at Gearbox (sorry I forget your name, I am quite sure its someone whos been here for a while) that the EGLM could not work a nerf round.  Is that true?

The Mini nerf football does fit in the launcher. The only problem is the tube is shorter than most and doesnt allow for much compression. So at this point from only being able to shoot the launcher a few times its not the best at it, but im hoping CO2 will fix that problem. As for testing if the launcher will fit on the VFC I will be at Hard Bean on Saturday.

Nice thorough review, just be careful of the latch that locks the stock in the full-stock position. I've found with almost all of the current Scar aeg models that this latch tends to break under sustained folded and normal wear and tear of the guns. Very solid gun though, more Scar models are.

how many rounds can you get off before the batteries die ....?

also have you tried the S-Arms mid cap mags?

Um not sure of total rounds but while on semi auto I can get 3-4 hours of use from one small type 1500mah battery.

Also update I will post more pics for soon.

While bored and just finishing up the gear box I decided to mess around with stock to look at possibilities for modding to allow a larger battery. After taking the gun appart i found a simple mod/problem fix. NOTE: I am not sure if this is with all of the STAR SCARs or just mine in particular. The cast peice that is used to make the stock adjustable has a pin that protrudes from the center. This pin is the pivot point that allows correct opperation of their system for adjusting the stock.
The problem with this pin is its cast onto the part, and its to long. Which means it sticks out into the battery compartment. The main reason my battery only goes so far into the stock.

FIX: Simply grind off enough of the pin so it is flush with the rest of the stock adjustment assembly. With the pin now flush I can easily fit a small type 10.8 volt battery into the stock.
