really quick noobish question....

I am a broke ass, and finally got ACUs, now I cant afford the ACU pattern gear yet, and wondered what meant more sense to use with my uni...OD or Coyote Brn??

(remember, its just to get me through some up coming games and will not ever take the place of ACU gear)

It was once believed that Chuck Norris actually lost a fight to a
pirate, but that is a lie, created by Chuck Norris himself to lure more pirates to him. Pirates never were very smart.

IMO coyote brown works the best with ACUpat, but most guys run OD with their setup. Check out TT for cheaper gear in ACUpat.

I use OD webgear with tan gloves and boots.  I think that helps break up the pattern.  See pic of me in above post.

Foliage Green, Smoke Green, Ranger Green all work well with the Universal Pattern (Layman = ACU camo).  FG is IN the pattern, and therefore works the best out of any solid color.  Since there is very little gear available in FG, Smoke and Ranger Green work well and are a close match.

Now, what to wear with ACUs?  If you want to wear them right (probably not the case), wear Universal Pattern or Foliage Green gear.  If you don't have either, pick the color that best blends in with your AO.

If it's for this weekend, I suggest Tan or Coyote.

Mugen, Ranger Joes has a ton of ACU pattern pouches and tac gear that's not to expensive. I may be putting together an order in a month or so if you want to get in on it.

http://www.rangerjoes.com/field-equipme ... 0_201.html . It's all their MOLLE gear, but the ACU stuff is in there. That and they have all the other acu accessories.

ACUs... from a guy that wears them daily, they're more annoying than cool. Velcro? since when is that tactical? Ever try washing something with that many velcro attatchments? AND velcro patches are easy to loose. Zippers aren't as versitile as buttons, I mean the BDUs are also a tool, not just cloting and cammo.

Not that I'm a die-hard BDU fan... I'm all up for progression, I just don't like the basic lay-out and construction they came up with. Then again, I haven't looked into the civilian paterns and my issue is from before they reviewed it, maybe they've fixed some of these draw backs.

On the plus side, the cammo patern works noticeably better than the standards for BDUs, which is actually a pretty big plus.

I like my ACUs.  They "breathe" much better than ABDUs, and aren't as hot in the sun.

The only thing that has changed since the initial issue of ACUs is the color of the gutted paracord waistband adjustment, and adding a few reinforcements in the pockets, crotch, and around the edges of the velcro.

My father got the first ones, I got the newer ones.

I Recognize that 3rd picture of the guy lying down with the radio from the BDU.com homepage.

Neat pics though!

I am with you man. I think the zipper and all that velcro was a mistake. Buttons are quiet and if you lose one A) it probably doesn't matter much and B) you can sew on a replacement in no time in the field. If your zipper breaks yer fooked. I do like the shape, breathability,a nd general design of the acu a lot. Pockets where they make sense and all that.

Seems to me that the sneaky troops and elite of the elite are not wearing the ACU's for sneaky kind of ops so the velcro seems not that big of a deal - I mean after all, MOST of the Army will never really have to be THAT tactical....    IMHO

Come on guys.

80% of the mag pouches these days are velcro.

When SOF units order special, purpose-built uniforms for bulk orders, they come with more velcro than the ACU.

TSSI, Paraclete, PROPPER, and others have made uniforms at the direct request of the sneakiest of the sneaky, and they have all kinds of velcro.  And zippers.

As for who's wearing them?  I've seen pics of everyone from HHC pukes to SF and Rangers wearing them overseas.

Sh*t, even Air Force SOF guys like TACPs, JTACs, and ROMADs are wearing Army ACUs because it's a superior uniform.
