Basher you should have stopped by my table and said hi.  Yep there were a bunch of pre-ban's being toted around at ridiculous prices.  Everybody's worried that they're going to lose too much money hanging on to them.  I even had a guy come by with a 50 round Thompson drum mag wanting $1,300, that's right thirteen hundred dollars.  Come Sept it will only be worth $285 if he's lucky.  I told him good luck on selling it.

I was thinking of going to at least look for some ammo tomorrow. What are the hours of the show? Also, I haven't been to the place before, could someone give me an street address or a link to a website for the show?

edit: and Harley, where is your booth?

Harley, what table do you run?????? Had I known you had one, I'd have dropped by for sure! Truth is, I may have stopped by and just not known it! Will you be at the CrazyRoads of the West show on the 11-12th of September (named because of the mass hysteria that will be taking place due to peole trying to get rid of their pre-ban goodies at the last moment)? Tell me what booth you run, and I'll stop by to chat for a while. [:D]

The wife and i went today.. our first gun show.  Cant say i was all that impressed really.  Sure there was a lot there, but not much as far as deals go on normal items.  Great place for rare-ish stuff, but not what i was looking for at least.  I was lookin for a German (not turkish..which everyone had) K98 since J&G have been out of them...there was 1 and it was in TERRIBLE condition but the guy wanted over $200 for it.  Then i was looking for a Remmington 700 PSS.. there was ONE GUY selling them.. and they were brand new and he wanted $800 for the 308 version.  I dont need a new one.. and i can get used for less through AZ Tactical if i want to.  SO yea.. i wasnt too impressed.  I was hoping for some decent deals but just didnt find any on the stuff i wanted.  That and the $6 for parking and $8 to get in... thats nuts!  Anyways... theres a place for everything i guess.. this just wasnt the place for what i wanted today.  Wish Harley would have said what booth he was at, since i dont know what he looks like i didnt know who to look for.  I did see the Practical Tactial booth though.. would have been nice had i been looking for gear! They had a lot of stuff.  Ill be waiting for J&G to get those K98's back in (they told me friday that they would be about 2 weeks), and then savin up for a bit to get that Remm.700.   Then ill hit the show in sept. for some nice glass to put on the Remmington.

Guys the booth I work at is "Ross Guns and Pawn".  I'll be working the whole weekend of the September show this time.  Normally I only work the Saturday shows.  Ruiner you'd **** if you saw the deal that TheCrow got on a Savage .308 bolt gun.  Such a nice trigger pull you'd cream yourself.  I found a guy selling Thompson M1A1 parts kits for $450!!!  Naturally I bought one so now my post dealer sample Thompson is under way.  The $200 I saved from what I figured the kit would cost me will almost pay for the %80 receiver for it.

I could't believe some of the prices going on this weekend.  Found a dealer with a couple Thompson drum mags for $1,000 each. I told him I forgot to pack my KY jelly and he me offered WD40 instead... lol.

I bought a Savage 10FP .308 from Wal-Mart - brand new for $450 and it came with the Accu-Trigger.  Very nice rifles for the price.  A great substitute for a 700 PSS.

The gunshow was a little strange for me.  There were lots of pre-ban stuff, but it seemed everyone was trying to rip people off at the last minute.  I saw a Steyr SPP for $2500!!!  It is really sad that fellow gun people are are trying to screw other gun people (and not in a fun way...)

I got that Savage 110FP in .308 with a 3-9X40 Leupold scope, mounts, sling, and Harris bipod for $550.  The trigger is very sweet.

very nice Crow!  I looked at the Savage over at AZ Tactical when i was there.  They were selling it with a scope and also the Harris bipod for around $800 i believe.  Sounds like you got a steal.  I didnt look too hard at it since i honestly didnt know much about the Savage model.  I did note the trigger it had on it.. very nice stuff.

I'd agree that this show was kind of a let down. The shows that take place outside (or in the other, larger building) are usually much better. This show had hardly any AR stuff, when usually I'll go and there will be literally be tables that reach from one end of the room to the other covered with AR uppers (which is what I was looking for). I found about three tables with uppers, all of which were way overpriced (even the post-ban stuff). The September show should be better, but the only thing I plan to buy there will be more ammo, a lower receiver (but chances are I'll be making an appointment to go get one from Ameetech Arms here in Mesa), and an ARMS #40 BUIS (if I haven't ordered one of those yet). Mags will come AFTER the ban sets, or maybe at the show if people drop prices enough to make a tiny profit.

I'm going to call RRA and order my pre-ban upper tomorrow so it'll be here in time for me to assemble it on the 13th. But that means I have to wait until the last minute to buy my lower. [:(] Oh well.

Actually, I don't think the September show will be better for AR stuff.  I think you will get a lot of dealers that will be asking even MORE for (formerly) preban uppers since they will be in HUGE demand.

Isn't there one in August, too? I think I saw a billboard today.

I think they'll drop their prices in Septemeber, at least a majority of them will.  Last minute desperation trying to salvage as much as they can on those precious pre-ban items before the value drops to less than what they originally paid for them.  There should be some deals there for sure, but if you really want to get in on some deals then do like I have and get yourselve on a pre-order list for things like C-mags and such.  I'm in line to buy a new C-mag for $250 as soon as the AWB sunsets.  Next will be some 100 and 50 round drum mags for the Thompson.  God... I'm going to be broke for a long time I can see it now.
Title:
Post by: Paco on July 27, 2004, 06:30:43 AM
I think that's the problem - EVERYONE has a huge list of things they are going to get after the AWB sunsets, and everyone and their dog has a C-MAG and (former) preban uppers on their list.  I can see that creating a shortage due to high demand, which usually leads to an increase in price for those that already have the items; selling them (not an increase over what current C-MAgs go for - but an increase in the factory retail price).  Same for uppers.

Ok, real quick... i have the chance to grab a 26" barreld Rem.700PSS for a tad over $600.... so now my question is...can someone give me some pros and cons of botht the Rem.700 and the Savage?  Im lookin to do this quick, so if you knwo anything, please let me know!

Post by: Harley on July 27, 2004, 08:46:59 AM
I don't see it that way.  Hell I'm sure Beta has a stock pile of restricted mags that they'd be happy to unload.  All they need to do is replace the back cover that has the LE restricted markings with a plain one and ship them out.  Yes the demand with make some prices go up on some items, but at least the items will be available at prices that are way lower than what are being asked today.

So you think that preban AR15 uppers will be LESS expensive in September than they are now?  Or did I misunderstand you?

...and to address the Rem 700 vs Savage 308.  I was in the same position and went with the Remington 700 ONLY because I found a 24" PSS model at a steal of a price.  If it had been the 26" PSS or the (current) 26" P model, I would have gone with the Savage 10FP .308.  It's about half the price and has the same performance as the Rem 700 out of the box and a MUCH better (stock) trigger.  The 700 is capable of much more and has a lot more "upgrades" you can do to it, but that wasn't my plan.

Post by: Ruiner on July 27, 2004, 09:26:48 AM
what sort of upgrades are you talking about though?  I cant imagine myself chaing stocks or barrels, and if i was gonna replace the trigger, then i might as well get the savage.  They both take bipods and scopes just the same.  I guess im not looking to upgrade either.. just add nice glass and a nice bipod to it and id be set.

I noticed that 10FP at a Wal-Mart myself. Tempting...

The "upgrades" are numerous.  You tend to have a larger selection of quality mount bases (although now pretty much every good company makes Savage bases), stocks, barrels, bolt handles, triggers, etc.

It's really only because the 700 is so ubiquitous, but the Savage is enjoying a lot of popularity.

Can I order a pre-ban upper right now if I don't have a lower? Reason I ask is because it will take RRA a sum total of about 4-6 weeks to make and ship my upper that I want, but I need it here in time to make my rifle on the 13th. So without a lower, I'm assuming it would be legal to purchase the upper, correct? If so, I'm going to give them a call either tonight, or tomorrow and place my order. [:D] Also, this is not a "made before the ban" upper, but it should get to me just days before the ban ends, so there should be no problem. Cost should run me around $475 chromed and shipped, complete with B/BC/CH. [:D]

Armalite is taking orders on uppers for when the ban expires.  It's in case they make a new one right away.

No you misunderstood part of what I was saying.  Since you can buy pre-ban uppers brand new right now the prices will not change on those items.  It's the restricted items that people are tyring to dump.  Recievers, high cap mags, drum mags, etc.  Uppers, stocks, crap like that will not be affected price wise.

Oh and I don't think the demand for "pre-ban" uppers will go up much.  Anyone who's wanting one will most likely have already purchased one kind of like someone else on the forums who's stockpiled his already. [;)]

Basher, there's nothing stopping you from ordering you upper right now.  Uppers are not restricted to buy, just to install on your "post-ban" lower for the time being.

Harley, thanks. I gave Vell a call, and he straightened that out for me. [:D] I just called RRA, but with the time difference between AZ and IL, they're closed. [:(] So I'll have to call them tomorrow on lunch break.

I DID, however, just get my RRA 6 position stock in the mail, and boy-oh-boy is it making me a rather unpatient individual. [:D] Very nice quality to it all. Now I just need to find a chrome spring so that I won't have to replace the spring as soon!

Title: FUNSHOW!
Post by: Basher on July 24, 2004, 04:15:35 PM
Went to the funshow today, and while I didn't find any pre-ban style uppers like I was hoping to (although I knew there wouldn't be any), I DID buy 500 rounds of XM193, a lower parts kit, and a manual/book on the AR to help me put mine together come the 13th of September. [:D]

I thought about buying a stripped lower, since there were no A3 pre-ban uppers, but since I've got a 6 position collapsible stock on the way, I figured I'd better not buy the lower until the 13th. Ameetech was there, which is where I bought my lower parts kit, and I almost bought a Grizzly lower from them, but I'd like to get one of their lowers, I think, and the Mega lower had some funny looking grenade checkering on the front of the mag well, and it wasn't teflon coated, either.

Post-ban AR's were pretty pricey this time around as well, except for those Ameetech ones (they had a few assembled ones).

Anyway, I'm well on my way to having my AR built. [^][:P]

Anybody else find anything worthwhile at the funshow?
