Sorry to see that.  That part about Predator is not entirely accurate.  The 5.56mm round would not have put the actor on his back, the minigun that was used was not "cable driven" with a wire down his pants, the actor did not wear any protection (the cases eject towards the ground), the 25kg of ammo is not too much to lug around, and the 20 seconds of sustained fire is about right...and these guns have a variable rate of fire:  trust me, I load these things.

Good article Christian.  Not to mention the fact that there's no way humanly possible for one man to carry the ammo and batteries needed to operate it in the field like they portrayed in the movie.

In 5.56 it probably wouldn't, but in 7.62 it might.  I also read on another forum some years back that they did run the battery cable's down his pant leg to hide them.  Got any insight on that Vell?

Besides, the actor in question is none other than Jesse "The Body" Ventura.  I am sure if he did not have time to bleed, he certainly would not have had time to be "lying on his back, being forced off the legs by the violent recoil".

Just my observation.

The 5.56 or 7.62?  I wasn't aware the 5.56 was used that much.  In fact, did they even make that many[?]

What are they mounted on when you load them?
(and don't say "a table" or "a workbench"[:P])

Now, I don't know if this is true or not (there is tons of false info in the civ world regarding military hardware), but I saw on an old episode of Discovery Channel's "WINGS" that the A-10 decelerates rapidly due to the "recoil" of the 30mm, even in a dive.  Interesting, even it it's false (which it most likely is).

Sounds like a load of "cool fun facts about military stuff!" BS to me, but does anyone know for SURE?

Vell?

Good old Wings.

I seem to remember that it slows the A-10 down, and could stop it if the plane could carry that much ammo and if the gun would fire that long.

Maybe not... Not sure now.  Probably saw the same episode of Wings.

---

I think the big gun on AC-130s (105mm?) move it noticably to the side when they fire it.  An Iowa class battleship firing all nine 16" guns in one broadside moves the 60000 ton ship something like 11 feet sideways... Thats a lot of force.

Actually I remember Turd telling me that if he fired the one on his Apache for long burst it would push the aircraft backwards.  I saw that episode of Wings as well.
