Has anyone tried the Ciener .22lr conversion for AR-15?

I'm Curious as to how well these Ciener conversions work, and if the .22 lr round will damage the barrel in any way. I've looked into the chamber convertors, which is basically a .223 shell that you stick a .22lr or WMR into, but they claim to be only for break barrel rifles, and they'e expensive, $30 for what is basically drilled out brass... anyway, if you have experience with either of these products, please let me know.

22lr conversions are much more intensive than just a resizing of the chamber. The 22lr round is smaller than the .223 and will not damage your barrel in any way but make it dirty, which cleaning will solve. I have heard things about the powder mucking up the gas ports and tube but that isn't too bad. Because the pressures are greatly reduced, the carrier is different as well as a few other things. They are a great way to train in cqb without costing a pretty penny, but the accuracy past 50yds isn't the best.

If you want to play around with it get the kit, if you are serious about training they have dedicated 22lr uppers that work great.

Yes.

You should get the CMMG or Spikes Tactical kit instead.


And run a .223 round or two through it after you're done.

I've looked at those other conversions as well, and honestly, i am completely in love with the idea of shooting my AR without counting the price every time i pull the trigger, but now im starting to think, why pay $200 for a bolt, when i could just go spend $20 on a 30 round mag for my Remington 597.... haha, I'm still considering a conversion bolt, but untill i have a useless $200 sittin around, ill spend it on some .223 or a crapload of .22s  :mrgreen: . I have heard that some people have feed problems with the conversions too, anyone know about that?

I'd rather shoot expensive 556 then pay for a ciener. Ciener is a complete dickhead. Hes taken peoples money, (SEVERAL) and then not shipped the item for months...and months...and months...and months...

So i bought an m261, and its worked great. Over 4k rnds through it and not a hickup. If i were to buy another it would be a Spikes or CMMG.

More leaning towards spikes.

Thanks man, a few others have recommended the same, but yeah, $200 can buy about 500+ .223 so yeah that makes more sense.

Saying that $200 will buy 500 rounds of 5.56 is like saying you're a winning poker player because you won once.

I can shoot a lot more than 500 rounds of anything in one day.

Last time I bought .223 in bulk it was $89 a case of 1000!  Now I am sad...


How many manufactures of the .22 conversion kit are there?  I know I have seen them but I guess I never looked close enough to follow brand names.

yeah, i know what your saying, but 500 rounds is 500 rounds, vs a hunk of metal .... so yeah, i would rather take out 500 communist rebels than be able to fire whimpy little .22s, ya know?
