Gentlemen,my deal is scopes are basically a cheat. If you can hit your target with iron sights that shows some real skill.Anyone can hit a target with a scope and benchrest/bipod if its sighted in correctly.I'am not impressed by long range accuracy with a scope. If your hunting big game...thats another ballgame. Its the same as a laser sight on a pistol.I guess I was raised old school.

<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">How wrong you are...there are many factors to consider..and the longer the range, the more these factors affect accuracy. Windage, elevation, mirage, cheek weld...yes, these affect iron sight shooters too. But seriously, w/ open sights you are limited to your vision. Try hitting a paper plate at say 200 yards w/ iron sights. Very tough to do. Compare that with hitting the same target at 400 yards with a 9x scope. Pretty close to the same comarison. Like anything...it takes a lot of practice. The scope just allows you to see further.

Try hitting a man-sized target at 800. Tough work for the uninitiated. [:D] Plus the scope amplifies every heartbeat and twitch (as I'm sure you know). Plenty of challenge if you ask me. Just extend the range until your group opens. Then commence pratice. [:D]

I would tend to agree with shifty, but scopes are just something completely different... it's a whole new way of shooting a gun. I have to use a scope when I hunt, but if I could, I would hunt with iron sights.

My M70 has irons, so I'm going to set things up so I can take the scope off and use my irons to hunt if the idea so interests me. I will admit that since things are smaller with no magnification, they're harder to hit. But they are both two different things. I like both myself. [:D]

I went to the range Saturday and shot my M700 after I put the new rings and scope on it. I sighted it in (well, almost) and fired these 3 shots from a bipod @ 100 yards.

My rifle:
