Assembling the G&P SPR Kit
« on: November 14, 2005, 04:13:24 PM »
I am having some difficulty getting this thing together. If anyone knows how, or can point me in the direction of someone who does know how to put it together, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Here we go again, now do not think that if you ask for a guide you willo get this kind of response every time :P

First Behold your SPR front end kit. Mine was assembles partially but that stuff is the easy part and I do not think needs emphasizing. Insert the full length barrel into the gearbox of choice and tighten the barrel nut. Use either a proper barrel wrench that has the little prongs that fit into the little holes on the barrel nut or just use a strap wrench, for heavens sake do not use a bare vice grip or "monkey wrench". Get the holes lined up so that there is a single hole directly virticle and two on the horizontal.

now put the little pin in on the horizontal. They will match up with the holes in the free floating rail.

Now attach your free floating rail by screwing the barrel nut on and matching up the holes and pins so that it comes out straight. If you are off you need to tighten your barrel nut so that you get a good alignment.

Insert your gas block and gas tube(actually stainless bar stock) so that the tube fits through the hole in the top of the barrel nut and goes over the indentations on the outer barrel.

Inset the little pins and gently get them into place however you can, not everyone has an anvil in their room.

Attach the flashhider end by screwing it on untill it lines up with the vents on the horizontal and tighten the set screw.

There are several set screws on the outer barrel make sure that you ahve tightened them all the way. now attach the thread saver and then tango down vertical grip, magpull rail covers and bipod and you are good to go!

The AR is a TM SR-16, and it is a G&P SPR/A kit. Thanks to Ganef, I have everything assembled, but I have quite a bit of movement on the RAS. If you have any ideas of how to fix that, I would appreciate it.

I think I found the problem, there is a remnant of an old gas tube protruding from the top rail on the upper receiver, preventing the SPR gas tube from entering the receiver, and securing it. If anyone knows how to remove the old gas tube, I would really appreciate it.

Cut, sand and possibly drill. Is it that hard?
