Mag Saver, pistol mag velcro cover?
« on: July 20, 2011, 10:55:38 PM »
I have been looking around for that last couple hours looking for what I thought I remember being called the mag saver, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. It is the elastic band that goes around the pistol grip and has velcro flaps that attach under the mag to keep it from dropping out unexpectedly. Anyone know the actual name of it or where to find one?

Mag Guard. They cost around $10, I'm pretty sure ASGI has'em as well.

Interesting product, but I'm reminded of my first airsoft game, one of the more experienced players had his sidearm holstered, but I noticed he didn't have a magazine in it. I pointed it out and he said he normally doesn't have a magazine in because they can be lost in the hustle of an airsoft game. The rationale was you should always have your AEG with you and it should always be properly maintained, I've hardly ever found myself in any situation where I needed to use my GBB. The reality is when their main AEG goes down, most players will simply call themselves out, walk back to the staging area and pull out their backup AEG then return to the game.

MagGuard, that's what it was. Thanks for that.

I agree with you on this for the most part, but when you run a Semi-only or bolt action rifle with a MED then a pistol or smg will be much more useful.

Not me. I'm stubborn that way.

I WILL, however, suicide-rush encampments pistol-only and try to take as many with me as I can, on the way back towards the staging area.

lol maybe I should've said most "sensible" players  :P

When I was running KWA G18Cs I'd usually run with the hi flow valves in the mags, now losing them would not only mean losing the mag, but the hi flow valves that came with them. Seeing as how I didn't even have the tools or know how to install them at the time, I had reason to be conservative.

Lost mags suck! Doesn't matter if it's just a cheapy mag or a super-nice extended mag with hi-flow valves covered in gold. They ain't cheap, and it does suck.

I've seen the mag guards used successfully... after seeing one guy lose 4 mags in 4 games from his kjw 1911.

I've had numerous occasions where having a GBB sidearm has either come in handy or downright saved me. Everything from defending myself in a small room, to running out of mags for my primary, to my AEG downright failing on me mid-game. I've even given it to other players with a downed gun/out of ammo in the middle of games to keep them in the fight. Makes a great primary in CQC, or even on field if playing CTF and you're taking on the role of the runner/flag retriever, something extremely light and compact which greatly increases mobility to use with one hand while carrying an objective (i.e. 'bomb' or flag or something of the sort) in the other. I've had so many instances where I've been glad to have a sidearm on me, I'll always be a believer in them lol.

I've seen them used as loaners for some players who've asked for them in the middle of a game, but I wouldn't use as it as my main no matter what the game type I'm playing. I've seen some players use them to great effect as a distraction, they'd play rabbit and pull a lot of players towards them, but I don't think they had any intention of coming out of that chase with any kills or even come out of it alive for that matter. (any of you old timers remember Drew?)

I know pistol only games can be customary after the main game has wrapped up, but I'm usually too wiped out to play those.

And that is what separates everyone from one another, personal opinion. Everyone is going to have different play style, that's what makes it fun and entertaining and not boring and predictable.

lol he knew everyone would haul ass to try to shoot him because they knew he only had a pistol

He was good at agitating people and pestering them, this was one of the ways he did it. But seriously before you turn into an Internet Superman, not many people could do what he did. I swear the guy must've been half billy goat with some of the places he would run you into, this is just me remembering the good old days.

You can play pistols against AEGs if you want, but in the same vein, you wouldn't catch me trying to throw rocks at a bee's nest either.
