I feel as though I can stray from my lane (the filthy fuckin' leg one) on this one, but that's exactly the wrong reason to wear them. Like, they ARE cool, and they must be earned. How he feels wearing them does not detract from their meaning. It's how he would act while wearing them that matters. I'm sure people wearing patches they were given by their parents/grandparents feel very good wearing them, did they earn them? No. Do they respect them? Yes.

I've thought about wearing patches, but I can't find anything I really like. Something like "3246th Latrine Diggers" would work, heh.

That would be the Engineers! :lol:

You guys are giving this way too much thought.

If you want to wear a unit patch, go ahead.  Just realize that you are a dirtball poser and not a soldier when you do so. ;)

I was thinking of getting a couple of Spetsnaz Special Forces/GRU patches and a Russian Dog Tag for my outfit.  My goal with my outfit is to replicate the russian spetsnaz, and of course I want to amend every nook and craney of the uniform.  When I wear those symbols on my outfit I do not claim that I earned the insignia.  I wear it all because I want to give respect to the historical aspect of the outfit and its timeframe.  In some respects certain people would be offeneded if you left out key parts of a uniform such as the patches, dog tags or w/e it may be, and then claim you are representing a certain military rank/position.  In doing what I do by wearing it all I want to establish this respect and present a snapshot of "this piece of history."  I suppose it takes a certain amount of maturity to really understand the significance of wearing something like a patch or a dog tag.

I just wanted to throw in a point, but I don't feel like reading all three pages, I read most of the first, so I don't know if this has been mentioned yet.
My dad served in the Air Force, and I'd be damned proud to wear some of his patches, probably not medals, seeing as though they don't really have a place on the battlefield, but maybe ribbons or patches to show respect to him and our country.
