Fightertown IS still open..
« on: June 15, 2012, 11:12:30 AM »
If you read the article in www.azcentral.com today, don't fret.
I just heard from Henry that Fightertown is still open and that games are still on there.

I was LITERALLY just about to post a new topic. Thanks for the clarification.

Btw. After re-reading the article....
So the county lost the original 1961 permit, so just made a new one in 06. Everything is dandy. Then they find the 1961 plan and he's changed some things in the last 50 years so he has to close for a year? Wow.

Its all about greed. Some shakedown attempt by Maricopa County's little Gestapo of Code Enforcers.
I hope the owner of Speedworld kicks their asses in court, then wins a harassment judgement.

Well if he really has built 26 acres of shit without any sort of building permits, the county does have a pretty solid leg to stand on. If it's just earthmoving though, that is pretty bullshit.

Everything was done with permits.  The buildings at Fightertown are all modular and not considered structures so no permits needed.  Nothing is permanent.  If your talking about speedworld thats more like 300 acres and Im sure he has all
his paperwork in order.

I was referring to Speedworld, yeah. The article said that something like 26 acres of additional structures had been built without the proper permits, but Speedworld made it sound like those "structures" are just mounds of dirt.

It would be really sad if they had to close, they are on AZ State land, not county...

Politics = ABOBS

On modular buildings in Phoenix proper one needs a permit, been there done that
twice :(

Don't be. Just because some county asshole "orders" something doesn't make it gospel.
Tell 'em to fuck off, Speedworld.

Ever wonder how the press gets word of stuff like this?
Think maybe someone at county wants pressure on Speedworld to "comply" with county's "wishes" by releasing crap to the news "ordering" closure or such. Maybe its a scare tactic?
Anyway, it's an empty threat. They're still open.

I'm sure races and events will go on all the way up to the day the police barricades the entrance. In the mean time I hope things work out. Would be sad to loose a track like that after 50 years.
