Safe Silicon Lube to use in AEGs and Gas Guns?
« on: July 11, 2011, 04:08:56 PM »
ive been using some b'laster silicon lube for about a few months and reading another post i relize that i should probably stop using it considering its only 25% silicon and has petrolium distilant so my question is is this lube safe to use in gas and aeg airsoft guns? or should i pick up something diffrent?

Don't use it.  Anything with Petrolium Distillates is going to wreak havoc on plastic and rubber.

Does anyone know if Prestone High viscosity formula Silicone lubricant is good for airsoft guns?

I assume it would be because on the back it lists what it's good for. Here are a couple of things:

"...metal,...rubber,plastic...Also hlps preserve rubber weather stripping."

in my day we just spat in the darn things closed em up and shipped them out to Milwaukee. Now kids all yuh need to do is um use the losi shock oil from an rc store is dirt cheap and easier IMHO than the spray, also mass to dollar ratio is way better than the spray.

This is what I use on my gears.  It comes in a little clear tube and is good stuff.

You know what else I found that works well with seals?  Aladdin's Magic Pool Lube.  There are two types: silicone-based and teflon-based.  It's lube made especially for those o-rings on pool filter pumps and provides a very strong seal and protects well with metal on metal contacts.  It's pretty thick, so I wouldn't use a ton of it on moving parts.  No need to slather it on.  You can get a huge tube of it from a pool supply store for about $5-$10.

+1 on the Losi shock oil. I use that stuff, too. I use 3,000 CS weight for my additive to propane. 5,000CS was a little on the thick side.
