Decent Scopes?
« on: October 11, 2011, 08:29:04 PM »
Right now I'm looking for a decent 4x scope, and I really don't know where to start. I've heard that Leapers and NC Star are just China rebranders, but are they good enough for airsoft use without constant maintenance? I'm pretty new to the scope world, and I really don't want to shell out a ton of money at the moment. The most I'll pay right now is $50, please tell me any decent offers you see out there. Thanks for any advice given.

If your budget is $50 that pretty much limits you to the brands you mentioned and other similar quality optics.

I know its really not much, but as long as it holds up, it'll do for now.

You may want to adjust your expectations regarding scopes, if you think you're gonna be able to hit targets with pinpoint accuracy, then getting a scope won't do much for you.

For me, I set my expectations for scopes to match the realities of airsoft, I understand airsoft guns won't literally be a point a shoot affair, so I use scopes to spot opposing players, and whoever I can't reach, I  then call out their positions over the radio.

No, I'm not expecting it to be accurate really at all, I'm just trying to maximize what I get for my money. (Just to clear things up, sorry for the confusion there.)

Well the two brands you mentioned should do the job, if they are your first scopes then no big deal if they break. I remember getting a G&P M68 Aimpoint replica as my first, then a G&P TA031 ACOG replica (still use it), and finally a real deal EOTech 511 (hardly use it). Or if this makes more sense to you, tough it out without a scope for now and save up until you can afford something better. The ACOG is my mainstay because I find it useful on just about any gun I put it on.

Well, I went ahead with a cheapo for now, and if it breaks, no skin off my back. I already have an expensive eotech clone to take care of, so I'm willing to take a gamble here. Thanks for the advice though, it certainly helped.

Why settle for a clone, I could sell you my real one ;)

I've done it. Being legit ain't cheap.

Actually, I use between 3x-6x all the time on airsoft guns. I don't use them as they are intended though since the guns are horribly inaccurate. I use the scope to find the flight path of the BBs then correct the angle of the gun to reach the target. Best thing is the cheap walmart 3x9 will work for this...and it was like $15 when I bought it.

You catch a lot of cheaters though....user beware.

Yeah it'd be cool if they could integrate a camera into a scope just so you can see with absolute certainty who is cheating, then use the footage to shame them digitally.
