custom fiber glass airsoft masks
« on: October 24, 2012, 06:47:43 PM »
im sure all of you have seen the cactus hobby and rlux custom mask on evike and other retailers and they look freaking sweet!! but they cost around 90-100+ dollars so they are not the cheapest things and the design mainly consist of army of two styles with different paint jobs. Im thinking about making my own completely custom handmade fiberglass mask for airsoft they will be 3 layers of fiberglass so they will be strong and i will use 22 gauge steel mesh for the eyes. i will start with making my own and when i finish it i will post my work on this thread but i just might consider making them for local mesa airsoft player and maybe ship them out to people farther away but if the demand isnt there i wont distribute unless you guys come to me. so if you guys are interested in custom masks reply in the thread and ill see where this goes. it will probably take awhile for my mask to end up on the thread cause im a perfectionist

That sounds really cool man, once you get them finished and if you decide to offer them for purchase I might be interested. Can't wait for pics

well with cost being calculated some minor design changes have to be made to the mask's. i cant use 22 gauge mesh for the eyes as you must bulk order it so impact resistant lenses will be used instead im going to have to test the durability of different lenses to get optimal durability/price

I like this better. I was going to post everything sounds nice except for the mesh. Low quality BB's will shatter upon impact so you could still get shit in your eyes.

However if you have impact resistant lenses it seems a lot more safe, and not to mention it'll probably look better as well. There is a definite chance that I may be interested.

Wonder what using Trimax would cost?

The impact resistant lenses definitely sound better for both quality and cosmetic appearance. So are you going to mount the lens in between the fiber glass sheeting?

Sounds cool..though i know a lot of people who don't like the metal mesh eye pieces.. along with myself. I find a lot of people like the "plastic" eye pieces a lot more, like what they use for goggles.

Just remember the fogging problem. Small computer fans work great.

nothing works better than revision wipes imo for fogging and idk i might lay the lenses inbetween the last layer of fiberglass or have very deep eye sockets for the mask and mount them halfway through using loctite epoxy or something

The main thing here is that you don't want the lenses too close to the eyes. I don't think a deep eye socket would look too bad. But putting it in the middle would probably be best.

well by deep im thinking the eye socket is around an inch or so and then mounting the lense half way through and the lenses are only about a 1/4th inch thick so i think it would be fine

Not sure how it would work around the face.

when you make a mold of a face when you add details like sunken face features its actually just a build up so instead of being recessed its a build up so its actually slightly further from the eye and not against the eye
